Ludicrous claims ?

Much off claims to have the fastest lube on the planet for race day.

Would be interesting to see it tested independently to confirm or disprove.

Is the claim as Ludicrous AF as the name ? 🤔

Fun that they included us in their competitive data.. and that they show us beating out the $145 AB Graphene lube ;-)

Two things of note from where I sit..

One, they are mis-representing the percentage savings through their language.. so this lube isn't 3% less power required as stated but rather the wattage losses are reduced by 3%.. so if SILCA Synergetic has losses of 3W on 250w input (which is very close to the real number).. Their claim is that Ludicrous will have 2.91w of loss on that same input.

I would put my marketing hat on and paraphrase that as you can potentially save 0.09w for spending an extra $40 on top of the $25 a bottle of Synergetic would cost you.

Second, their CeramicSpeed data feels like a targeted hit-piece to me. I've tested the crap out of lubes as well as have seen the data of others, and Ceramicspeed UFO2 is right there AB Graphene and SILCA SuperSecret/Synergetic.. all within the same 1/10th of a watt or so on my test machine. I'm not sure how they could even obtain a data curve that looks quite like this with that lube? Very fishy...

Yeah, good points.
Their claim in that graph you posted that it'd take 124% more ower with Ceramic Speed is dead cert utter BS.
That is saying that instead of my feeble 200w to average 20mph on an IM, I'd have to put out 450w to get around at the same speed. Even an orange rusty seized up mess wouldn't need 124% more !!

yeah, i haven't remotely got Josh's knowledge in this area but i immediately switched off from these claims when i saw that UFO line. its just so far out of whack from what everyone agrees to be true that something fishy is going on. unfortunately this seems to be standard practice from muc off, always making massive claims backed by psuedo-science. i think it best we just ignore everything they say

No.... that's not what they're claiming at all. If you ride 200W and lose 3W to the others lubes, they're saying you lose 6W with Ceramic Speed

The real crime here though, is that they don't have Dark Helmet on the bottle. They couldn't spring for a Rick Moranis endorsement?

My favorite is the complete absence of scale on the y-axis.

Talk about garbage data interpretation. MucOff is ridiculous. I gave away my remaining 4 bottles of their cheaper "dry" and "ceramic" lubes once I purchased synergetic. Wouldn't put Muc-Off lubes on my bikes even if they gave it to me for free.

It is what they are saying though- it says it needs 124% more power than using xxx lube than theirs. It doesn't say it wastes 124% more. It says I need 124% more.
Just as Josh says that's misleading as it needs 3,% more not 124% more. 206w, whereas their misleading words would mean [200 + (1.24 x 200)] = 248w.

Don't get me wrong... I concluded "markettng BS-ahoy" the moment I saw the stripey bottle. But wondered how far from other stuff (and waxing) they were really.

24 hours later this one still baffles me..

In some ways this reminds me of the early wind tunnel test marketing days.. we may not have always been the absolute fastest, but we were always top 2 or 3 at any depth, and then some new brand would show up and had to put is 9th fastest with lesser known, and less threatening brands ranked higher. This happened even when we had product independently shown by third party sources to be best in class.

My guess that Muc-Off is thinking that they can make their biggest competitor at the high end (Ceramicspeed) look bad, especially as they are both occupying the same $65 price point, while they can make a small and less threatening competitor (SILCA) and an insanely overpriced competitor (AB) look OK.

In turn though, they've disclosed that their newest, 'Fastest ever produced' product is only ~0.1 watt faster than Synergetic, our self proclaimed third fastest product designed for harsh conditions, longevity per application, and ease of application over pure speed.. which in turn also tells the world that our slowest product is now faster than every previous product they've ever made

I'm certainly thankful for the reveal here, but I have to think that this was a big miscalculation on their part and will be interesting to see if they pivot on this messaging.

You pretty much summed up my conclusion when I read their testing (marketing): Buy Silca!

I chuckled thinking their intent wasn’t to steer toward Silca, but that is as my read. Which reminds me, I’m out of lube, so quite timely!

Ha! Sadly, I think their true intent was probably to slam CeramicSpeed more than anything else, which is a shame, that's a good company full of good people who are truthful and honest competitors in my experience, and you can't say that about everybody in the bike industry!!
