If the wind held he'd have had a bit of a tail wind from the base to Molina Basin, bit of a headwind though about mile 7.4, cross wind until 7.8, headwind /cross wind until about 15k, bit of a tail wind until making the turn to climb to windy point which is about 12.5 miles in. Then a bit of a headwind up to Windy Point which is the longest part of steep on that climb. Then a bit of a tailwind from ~ 13.5 until 17 which takes him up the steepest part of the climb although it's short. Then mixed head/cross/tail winds up to the finish.
I found the portion from 16 -21 pretty fast yesterday for me. That's about the fastest I've climbed it in about 3yr.
There was a support van with him as well, not sure how much, if any role, that may have played in sheltering from head/cross/tail winds in the ascent.
