Pics of the cave Post Sandy... The house is mostly OK, basement had some water. Most, if not all of the backyard will likely not be covered by insurance. Sucks... but many many are suffering much worse. We finally got power back this Friday.

Wowwww.... that's some heavy duty damage.

Glad you're ok and the house is good as well - good that you have insurance so you can make it outdoor man-cave/patio #2 on the rebuild!

My folks were in Long Island as well but they just lost power for 14 days (!) They don't have the lovely ocean view you have, though.

Appreciate the pics and the followup - hard to think about ST with stuff like that!

Here's mine. Couple of things I did:
  • TV is on an articulating mount so that I can have it directly in front of either the treadmill or the Computrainer.
  • I positioned my TV low so that I don't get neck pain when riding
  • I have another family section of the basement where the kid's TV, PS3 and Verizon set-top box live.
  • I ran an extra HDMI cable from the PS3 to my TV. This gives me access to watch DVD's, Netflix and Amazon Prime from the PS3. I have to reach behind the PS3 and swap the HDMI cable when I ride/run but that takes 2 seconds.
  • I ran an extra Component Video Cable to my TV from the Verizon set-top box. So the Verizon box has component video to my TV and HDMI to the kid's TV. Then I got a remote extender to control the Verizon set-top box (I don't have line of site). With this I can watch live TV and watch recorded shows from the whole house DVR.
  • My laptop has an HDMI out which is plugged into my TV so I can also watch streaming from my laptop.

I train pretty much exclusively in ERG mode and let the TV distract me.

How does the hardwood or linoleum plank flooring hold up to the sweat?

Actually, I usually have a yoga mat under the trainer and bike.

That said, I have not noticed any issues with the wood floor getting damaged after the mat gets soaked.

Damn for some reason they must flip in tiny pics. But they show up the right way on the my iPhone and iPad.
I wonder why?
Set the theater room up for 7.1 but after listening to some of the new all in one sound bars that go in the front of the room I wonder if I should have just did that. The room is only 14x20. Going to shake the house from its foundation. lol we are going with a interlocking vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood. It is supposed to me very durable to kids and takes very well to mopping :0). Plus should thee be a flood you can lift it up and dry it off then reinstall. But it better not flood we just spent a whole bunch of $$$$$ on French drains , sump pumps and sealers on the actual basement walls and floors. I incorporated a floor drains and piping that connect to the sump in each of the four corners of the house for easy cleaning.

To all,

What have you done to be able to listen to the television while using a noisy trainer/treadmill?

Super loud speakers? Wireless headphones?

So do you use a wet vac on the carpet once a week, blame the smell on the dog or are you hoping for an amicable break up? Just kidding, of course but that would turn into one nasty smelling room if I trained on that set up.

Buy a super long headphone cord and use any comfortable set of headphones. Easier than keeping wireless charged, plus they tend to be a little clunky and expensive. The ones that come with ipod work well for me. Some nice noice cancelling full enclosure headphones would be nice, though.

The wife never enters the pain cave. Even so I usually put a rubber mat under the bike and also have a "sweat net" on the bike

How do you have your bike mounted on the wall? I've been looking for something exactly like that? My initial searches all show up with the tower type stand. Yours is pretty on point.

Long 1/8th inch headphone cord + sport headphones work well.
