Just finished putting mine together for the winter. Still need to dress it up a little, but all the important stuff is together.

Any issues w/ neck pain having the monitors so high?

question...why the book under the front tire? just started using indoor trainer a months ago....any advice / info is appreciated.

I do this as well. Since the back wheel is off the ground a bit from being in the trainer, it helps level out the bike so it doesn't feel like you're riding downhill the whole time. Take a bit of weight off the hands/arms.

They're just a bit high for my liking. Right now I haven't decided if I'm going to lower them or not. The monitors are screwed into the wall so I'll avoid moving them unless I start getting neck pain. I figure this way it couldn't hurt for muscle memory holding my head in a better aero position...

Set this up under my carport. The main idea of this was to be able to jack up the heat in there. Winters are long and cold so those early southern races could get tough without any training in some heat. Its a stand a lot building, fully sealed up. Put a full surround stereo system in it and looking forward to watching game 6 in there.

Just to balance to depressing pain cave images... Here's at least the view from the behind the house. That's the Mississippi river at one of the widest sections, about a 3/4 mile across. Were about 110' up on the bluff. I haven't done an real open water swim in it yet. IF I won hte lottery I'd build a 25M lap pool and a small building next to it with a training studio.

I was involved in a cycling accident which resulted in me receiving a fresh injection of funds from the other party's insurance co. As a result I purchased a new treadmill from craigslist (poor guy bought and filled a house for his then GF whom decided to leave him), bike and trainer. I currently only have use of one arm, hence the bike set up so chillax..............

We put 5 CompuTrainers in the basement, mounted two projectors above the riders and another projector down the length of the room, and fired up some Sufferfest videos. It's like being there....

Can you post some pictures of your screen set up? I have an LCD smart tv that I was going to use for the Netflix, tv, etc, but have a projector that I was going to use for the computrainer and trainerroad images. Trying to figure out a way to integrate the two. Either that or ditch the LCD use projectors only.

Thanks,

Anyone using Netflix for their pain cave? I use Apple TV and a 300w Soundbar with sub. The sound is fine with music but Netflix is so damn quiet I can barely hear it even with the sound bar up full. Turn the music on and it sounds like a club (it's only a small room). Anyone have an Apple TV Netflix volume fix?

Here's our setup. Basically, we started with a NEC VT650 mounted on the ceiling and projecting length-wise down the room. That allowed 4 CompuTrainers side-by-side. The resultant image was 12 feet wide and 8 feet tall, completely filling the far wall. We retained this projector for football games and (now) allowing us to project course maps and profiles while riding course videos that are projected on the adjacent long wall (see below).

To expand to 5 CompuTrainers, we had to rotate 90 degrees. I installed two NEC VT670 projectors ($100 each on eBay) on the ceiling, taking a lot of measurements and angles so that the images would match and create one large image.

Here's the resultant view from the rider's perspective.

By making the computer background black, you can't tell where the windows overlap, creating a big screen feel. The image above is about 16 feet wide and 7 feet tall, and is about 6 feet in front of the riders. The rider's head(s) don't impede the image or create a shadow unless they sit bolt upright (and we have several 6'5" riders) because the projectors are mounted pretty tight against the ceiling and throw the image over the top of the riders (we measured a LOT). The "seam" where the images meet in the middle is almost invisible and needs a little tweaking, but it's darn close. Notice we're running PerfPRO Studio and a Sufferfest video in the image above. Drew at PerfPRO is really supportive and has been most helpful in making this possible, not to mention that his software is awesome.

One interesting thing we discovered when riding Real Course Videos is the ability to project the course map and profile on the right-hand wall (the original projector throwing the image length-wise down the room, as seen in the picture above with the St. Croix 70.3 map displayed), while the Real Course Video plays in front of the riders. That way, riders can lift their finger into the image and point out where we "are" on the map in relation to the Real Course Video. That really help get the whole course and layout into your head....

We run two sessions each Tuesday and Thursday, and one session on Saturday and Sunday morning. We use SignupGenius (free) for online signup (http://www.signupgenius.com/...AB29A64-computrainer) which allows me to be downstairs and ride and not answer the phone or text (any slots open?). No charge to anyone because Bev and I get the benefit of friends encouraging us to ride and train hard and we all get better.

This room took priority over renovating the bathroom... I am able to store a water rower, treadmill in the closet, punching bag, dumbbells and plates, olympic bar with home made bench press. Of course room for my trainer. Clear everything to the side and there is tons of room for stretching and strength.
