For the folks who use them, how did you determine you needed them? Thanks.

This begs the quesion...why don't shoe manufacturers simply include a lift in the shoe???

When I was fitted by Dave Bunce, System One fitting, Bicycle Sports, we added them. I had two shims, but reduced it to one after I got my new shoes (SPDSL r215). Feels fine.

Have someone take a photo of you on the bike, pedals level, standing, of the back of your shoes

Because riders would complain, and because the amount of lift varies with each rider.

If your knee does a "wobble" at the top (12 oclock) of your pedal stroke, and it's determined not to be a saddle height issue, then you might be a candidate for lewedges or the same type of correction in an orthotic. This is really something that should be determed by a fit specialist.

Your knees will wobble side to side while pedaling.

My bike fitter somehow determined that I would benefit from them. Turns out he was right. My pedal stroke feels a little more natural.

The newer high-end Specialized road shoes seem to offer this.

I am in the market for new shoes and have tried the Specialized Carbon Road Pros on in the shop and they feel great. I will be making a move soon.

Pain on the outside of your foot in your bike shoe = too much pressure in that area due to shoe outsole being too 'flat'. Add wedges to raise the inside of the your feet until pain is relieved.

You got a stress fracture from riding? I've never heard of that.

I don't know the name but I got a stress fracture of the bone that leads to my little toe. (Not the toe itself but further into the foot.) It turns out that all of my weight was on the outside of my foot, which directly stressed that bone.

My podiatrist ended up putting about 4 wedges under my left foot so as to even out the pressure. My bike fitter later confirmed this.

Since then, I've never had a problem.

The LeWedges came as part of a bike fit session by CycleFit of London.....before a mirror I saw for myself how they corrected my out-splaying legs....and it also corrected the pain I used to get on the outside of my feet on long rides.....for me they're priceless...the best cycling product ever!!!! I bet 99% of everyone out there would benefit from them....guaranteed.

I would think that anyone selling wedges should have the tool to determine if/how many you would need.
It's simply a matter of measuring the "cant" of your foot in a neutral position. It takes minutes to do.
It is NOT a matter of just putting a lift under the heel. The wedges will have more material under the varus (inside) or valgus (outside) of the ball of your foot depending on your individual makeup.

I experimented with LeWedges a few months ago. I found that when I put them on, my cleat would rock up and down (i.e. in the vertical direction) on the pedal with each stroke. It seemed that my cleat was somehow bowing or something with the wedges on, i.e. it wasn't flat anymore. As far as I understand, the cleat should stay flat, but the shoe should now be at an angle to the cleat. It looked fine, but it definitely didn't feel right while pedaling. I couldn't figure out why this was happening, any ideas?

I use look style cleats, fwiw.

They should have used a longer screw to compensate for the extra material on one side of the cleat. That's the only thing I can think of.
