He's 45 years older than I am and can whip my time. Impressive.

I'd like to hear his answer on how many laps a 50 is ?
That's amazing.

Impressive. I wonder, historically, how many attempts have been made in the 100-104 age group.

Agreed it's impressive for a 99-year old, but you sure he beats you or were you thinking of your 100m time?

No kick to speak of, but that stroke rate! If you're a triathlete in your 40's or 50's and think you're too old to sprint and couldn't possibly hold your form together at a rate faster than 60 or 65 SPM, watch this 99 year old codger. He just threw down a long course 50 at ~80 SPM!

I asked him if he was going to sign up for the next year. Completely serious he said, I quote " No point competing and winning a medal with no one in your age group"

He took 68 strokes in 56:12. That is incredible at his age. So much for our masters instructor telling us to lengthen out our stroke and take fewer spl. After the start and streamline, it was more like 52 seconds for 68 strokes.

Late-onset swimmer?
No way. He used to swim as a teenager. Sure, it was before WWII though!
I'll definitely be showing this to my mother, who turned 90 a couple of weeks ago.
