Kona AG Winners - KQ for following year?
Do Kona Age Group winners get an auto slot for the following year, or do they have to qualify at a subsequent race? Asking for a friend.
Hypothetical situation:
You're racing in a small AG (old people). There are 4-6 of you that can compete for the podium. There is one athlete that is head and heels better than everyone else. In fact he won his AG at Kona in 2017 (multiple time winner, btw), and on anyone in the AG's average day they can't get within 45 minutes of the dude.
Does he already have a slot? Are the other guys competing for his roll down or just the honor of standing with him on the podium?

Yes.

I read that as THE age group champion. Only one male and one female. (but I don't know).

I re-checked at "http://www.coachcox.co.uk/...7-age-group-results/"

He says "The winner of each age group at Kona receives a slot for the following year’s race, so we can quite precisely track the qualifying times at the World Champs."

Hopefully that does it ;)

I read the IM website similar to Sean. The link you have is just a dude's interpretation of the results.

Haven’t read the rules but talked to an AG champ from 2015 I think and they just had to “validate” in am IM the following year and pay the entry fee. But things could have changed since then.

So,Uncle, you’re saying an AG winner doesn’t get an automatic slot for the following year? And you know this how?

No, I believe Uncle is saying that the guy's (coach cox? In one of the links above) interpretation of the rules as stating that an AG winner automatically gets a spot for the following year is the correct one.
