do you have any documents or standards regarding the swimming pool water temperature I can show to the pool operator ?

Well, two weekends ago I took a clinic to be a swim official (so I can watch high school meets, DQ a bunch of them on turns, and get paid for it...) and the officiating rules book says that water temp should be between 78-82*. Does that help you?

91 is way too warm to swim in. You'd boil yourself alive. Like a lobster...

I did feel like that after 10 min. It's a shame how much energy they are wasting to turn this beautiful pool into a hot tub for the convinience of some people who use it less than half an hour every week while all they need to do is to move a bit in the water...

Nice workout.

So tonight was our intramural meet. I was supposed to swim but I've been forbidden from swimming until next Wednesday (I'm not sure I can last that long. This is killing me.) but I was registered as the captain of a team so I couldn't not go. It's a good thing I didn't have a swimsuit with me, becuase if I had, I'd have been in that water quicker than you can say "freestyle."

Most of the participation from intramural meets comes from fraternities and sororities and it was hilarious to watch people who can't swim try to. Obviously some of them had been competitive swimmers in a former life becuase their strokes looked alright - but most of it was fraternity guys who thought they were in good shape, tried to swim, and failed miserably. A couple of the guys who got cut from the swim team were there and they did a half-decent job.

I'm not sure what the sorority girls were thinking though. They got in and stood at the end of the lane chatting. I think they thought "warmup" meant "social time." My friend Son swam right through the middle of their little group, splashed them quite well on a flip turn, and then they got out of the way. :)

I'm pleased to say that my team (fine, two guys... our fourth person couldn't make it so between me out, and him out, we were down to two) did quite well. I'm fairly sure their success was due to my superior captain-ing abilities ;) between the two of them, they won three events. That means we get three t-shirts!!!

I survived another patch of compulsion... these seem to be common in this whole "downtime" thing. I'll start to feel like I have all this energy trapped inside of me and it has nowhere to go and I get all hyperactive and unsettled and fidgety. It's horrible. I'm serious, if I had a swimsuit in my locker I'd have been in that water... I think I surrender, I NEED TO GO SWIMMING!

The next time the water is 91 degrees, DON'T GET IN IT AND TRY TO SWIM. It is just not good for you.

Not all of us 'are doing great'...
Just swam the second session of November yesterday. The clubs training + some extra meters to get back on schedule... I just can't get into 'training mode' and out of 'Off season mode'. What was my goal again..? 55000m? Uuh, more then about 47000 to go...

Sorry you can't swim until next Wednesday! That must be so frustrating!

Good luck with the officiating, and congratulations on your team's win! My kids both are club swimmers, and my husband and I have thought about taking the judging course. So far we've only been brave enough to be timers. :-) It's really interesting to watch people who don't swim regularly swim at a meet. You tend to forget that most people don't swim very well... My 8th grader is on his middle school team and his middle school practice is right after his regular practice. He usually does both, and it's kind of painful to watch some of the kids on the school team. Even the weaker club swimmers look strong in comparison. The middle school kids will get a lot better by the end of the season, but for now it's a little rough.

Workout for November 8th:

-600 free/choice by 50
-4x200 free/back/free/breast by 50 on 3:20
-4x75 free on 1:05
-8x25, 2 of each stroke, on 0:30

-4x through:
--25 Tarzan drill on 0:30
--50 dolphin kick on back on 1:10
--75 fingertip drag on 1:15
--100 fast on 1:30 -- 100's in 1:17, 1:16, 1:16, 1:12 (last one after 30 sec. rest)

-50 easy

-10 min continuous pull (750Y)
-10 min continuous kick w/fins (700Y)

-100 easy

Total: 4500 SCY

Calling you out. 1800 yards to date? Come on..... Where is that 5:15 going to come from?

Your goal and mine look pretty similar. 6 minute 500 yds. = 5:15 scm, right? Let's get it on!!!

Sorry you can't swim until next Wednesday! That must be so frustrating!

I'm not sure frustrating is the word for it. Usually when I feel frustrated, there is some degree of anger in it - do you know what I mean? Like you get mad because you can't do something. Frustration is the feeling of trying your hardest in a workout and not getting any 100 splits under 1:10 even though you know you're quite capable of doing so. Frustration is a calculus problem that you just cannot solve, even though you've tried over and over again.

I feel like a cat with an open can of tuna in front of it. The cat is looking at the tuna and she can smell the tuna and in ONE SECOND she's going to eat the tuna, because she just can't resist it any longer.

I'm the cat. Swimming is the tuna.

I probably won't be in for the NOV challenge, but I'll be up for 50,000m (not yds) for the DEC challenge.

Maybe a little pool running or a kick workout with fins on could get you a bite of unforbidden tuna...

I made a mistake and planned an IM workout for the day after getting a flu shot. My left shoulder was dragging from the start of the workout. I should have asked to get the shot in my butt!

2500 junk yards today to stay ahead of the "Behind Man". OK, instead of junk, maybe I should call in "recovery" or "technique" or something....

TheMickstar - 20 hours

My initial plan of just clocking hours to keep things simple is screwing up all of my stats in the spreadsheet, and it won't let me input fractions of an hour (it rounds). So, I'm using an estimate of 3,000m/hr and changing my goal to 60Km for the month. (I'm still going by time. I'm just converting for the spreadsheet. It'll be close enough for me.)

If I make it tomorrow morning (I plan on it), I'll have gone every morning this week. That's HUGE for me. You're keeping my motivated!

I just added a "Baldric" column. And I put all your meters so far on one day since I don't know how you've spread it out over the last eight.

Spreadsheeting - click the box you want to type in. Type. Hit "enter." ;-) I think
