Is there a CaliforniaMan in 2006?

I do not see it listed on the J&A website.

Interesting. Cali-Man Half moved to June with a "new location for 2006" yet to be announced. We'll have to wait and see what changes will still occur...

Hmmm. Interesting. Dave, as you and I both know, everyone there LOVED the race, venue, and time of year, but my guess is that they would move it to bring in more heavy-hitters. Too close between IM Canada and Kona I guess. We'll see!

But the J&A says Davis. Weird

I am not sure what is going on. Trying to talk to a person who knows the answer. I really loved having a Full IM ( :O) ) at the end of my season, and close by!!

Will see if I can find out what is going on, and then if I can talk about it.

It's too bad, but the site implies that there will be no full California Man race next year. It probably makes sense economically, considering that there were only 138 finishers of the Full this year. There was much incremental effort, organization, and logistics involved to accomodate the Full racers, who were far in the minority. Personally, despite the small size, I loved the race as my first Iron finish, and it would be great for it to be in Davis again. However, if they have to move it somewhere, I vote for Lake Del Valle/Livermore. There would be a Lynch Hill-like climb right out of the swim, though.

If it happened in Livermore, that would be pretty darn cool. Actually, really hot depending on the time of year...but it could be an awesome venue. For some reason I see it as being an incredible logistical challenge, though.

But I would be in for sure if it happened there!

Once I see what is going on, that is exactly what I thought to do.

I grew up in livermore and that area IMO would be the pits. Talk about being in the sticks.

Problem with Livermore are the hicks on Mines road leading to Del Valle- they hate cyclists and would NEVER agree to an event out there. Many have tried in the past, but it just isn't going to happen. Would be a great city for it, though.

Maybe if the swim start was out there and T2/finish was in downtown... Hmm... hmm...

Umm.. When was the last time you were in Livermore? Very different place these days (except Mines Road, of course).

Nope, just always hot, windy, snakes, no shade. Nothing compared to the real positives of Davis, IMO

Not likely to happen since EBMUD is pretty prickly about giving permits for anything out there. And the run out there would be pretty hard to do unless you limit it to people who finish in daylight since running trails with rattlesnakes in the dark wouldn't be too much fun.

As for the date change, June is better since August/September already has Half Vineman and Big Kahuna (and Barb's Race), so how many people will do two (or three HIM races within 8 weeks or so.

I still like a full late in the season for us poor folks who will never get to Kona, like the studlett you are. :o)

Now, it would sure be cool if Mdot put a race on in northern calif!!!

Why would TBF know what's going on at J&A?

I'd just go to the source and email Tamatha Robles, the owner of J&A.

I wonder why J&A has mixed messages on their web. One set of comments states it is in Davis.
That other sentence says now location, again, for the third year in a row? I heard they may try to do at santa cruz. Again, I want a full. Why not a WTC event in northern California?

I know Bill from TBF very well. But, the last time we talked about their last half IM race, they had to stop because they lost too much money. So, hard to believe they would give a full a try, but, I sure would try to talk them into it since they put on such a first class set of races!!!!
