Hello All,
I am signed up for my first Ironman this coming October. I am doing the Great Floridian and I am getting a bit nervous that I do not have enough base training in to attempt this thing and do it right. I was hoping that all the great minds on this site would help to ease my mind or tell me that I am crazy to attempt it. I have been training roughly 4 to 7 hours a week since this past January. This has been mainly on the bike and run. I hate the pool!!! (I know I need to be in the water but ugh!!!!) My running has been coming along alright I have been doing 1 hour runs (approx. 9miles) and running the last miles in the low 6:15-20's. My biking is coming along also. I just did a 52 mile ride by myself this past weekend averaging about 20mph and felt real good.
My questions are though is this enough base training to really tackle and step up to the IM distance? How much time should I allot roughly per week to get ready? And finally what would be a reasonable and realistic time goal to shoot for since this is my first one? I have never been on this course so if anyone has some good info about it it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the help. This site is great!!
