If andrew messick reads this, "how much would it cost to have streaming intervals for all the athletes at the bottom of the feed."
That is all that is needed. The coverage is so much better than a few years ago.
There are a lot more commercials so they are doing much better monetizing the broadcast.

He's definitely in the game.

Unless I am misreading, the twitter feed on the right of the live feed says Sanders is only 1 minute back of the leaders?! How did he make up so much time so quick?? Mistake?

At about 60km, Michael Weiss and Lionel Sanders are now 1:11 back from the leader. They will soon be on the back of the lead group. They are followed by James Cunnama. Kienle has dropped back a bit and is riding with Chevrot and Kramer.

i'm having a hard time following these guys on the TV. they're showing raelert on the bike, telling us he's at/near the front, but didn't he serve a penalty too? are they just stand-downs? or serving the full penalty?

Twitter feed is posting standings at various mile markers. Much more helpful to see who is where.

There's a FB live video from the penalty tent. I saw FVL, McMahon and Lange there.

Lionel needs to sit in for a while to cool the jets from catching up to the group

Yeah, in year's past they would regularly post the leaderboards, but that seems to be missing this year.

Sanders was still 4 minutes back at the timing spot a mile past Kawaihae, but he rode the last segment as fast as Kienle, Weiss, etc, who had joined the lead pack.

I rode to Waikoloa yesterday at 8-ish (race time there) and it was a ripping cross-headwind. I was 25 km/h downhill and 45 uphill the other way back towards town. I was hoping it would be the same today and would bust up the peloton, or at least soften them up.

I don't think the trackers are as accurate today. Some seem to be updating less often than others.

you know, monty and i used to do a lot of live coverage, reporting it here on slowtwitch. including in the old old days this particular race. we moved in on the race hard. grabbed it by the p***y. you absolutely knew who was on first and on second. terrible they can't do that with this race.

I was thinking about this early this morning before the feed started since I knew the quality of the coverage would be brought up. I think it some part it comes down to that its former athletes without formal broadcast training but most importantly I think is that IM sees the live feed as more of a feed for all and so they cater more to beginners/family who may not fully understand the sport and what's going on so its dumbed down. I think that approach is wrong. They should view their audience as veteran triathletes and focus on the things that they would be interested which is positioning and tactics and such.

While they were busy blah / blah / blahing, they completely missed the catch by the
Weiss / Kienle / Thomas group.

Greg just noticed that Weiss is in the lead and pushing forward.
