A guy driving on a motor bike almost took out the lead camera bike on the german feed. Would have thought the streets would be completely closed off.

12 5:46:03 7:43 Lionel Sanders 18:15 6:14

Sanders not as fast as the top-5 but closing on the rest.

I think Jan and Sebi will slow down a bit. The other guys will slow down a lot more. No way most of these guys keep up their 2:45 pace. Sanders is running at the crazy 2:35 pace that Frodo and Kienle are on. He's going to slow down too, but will be interesting to see the relative fades after they climb up Palani onto the QueenK.

Frodo's gotta be generating the most heat out of any of these guys with his size and speed.

I'm fortunate to be on Ali'i Drive (no live weather station though) and it is a riveting race. I'll drop this in and try and keep it short.

Dan (and others):

We offered a free trial of Qollector to age group athletes. We are tracking participants on quarqrace.com so they get the race features such as age groups, favorites and ETA. We have around 100 participants. It is close to live. It updates every minute.

The pros are using competing technology. Both devices use cellular modems.

Qollector uses 3G AT&T cellular and we control the device's hardware and firmware, and the FUZE file transfers. There is a dead spot at Hawi. But at biking pace we get updates throughout the course elsewhere. We had two developers on the island for two weeks prior to last year's race learning about Qollector in Hawaii.

When you click into the Table on quarqrace.com you can click on a participant and it shows you when they were last seen. 1-60 secs or longer if they're out of service.

Mark and Dave were running slower. No one has ever run 2:35 pace at Kona or no one has run sub 2:40. //

Actually not true. If you listen to Dave and Mark talk about that run, they were going just over 5;30 pace right around where these guys are. There was a lot of attacking by dave in the first 15 miles and then it would settle down once mark caught up. I dont know how those two ran so fast doing it as a fartlek run, guess because they had to. We will see what these germans have to do..

i was invited to the first several hoka "think tanks." i knew the frenchmen before they sold the company to deckers.

after my second or third think tank, the then-president of hoka pronounced the company "hoka-1-1." i then asked, officially, for the record, how is it pronounced? how are you pronouncing it? officially?

"hoka-1-1."

either ironman (hoka oh-nay oh-nay) didn't get that memo, or they've changed it back. it originally was oh-nay. it's a maori word. but deckers outdoor said, heck, fudge it, it's just 1-1. i'll find out if they've repented.

The Hoff is in an excellent position. He paced himself very well two years ago. Wonder if he can control himself as well in town on the run this year.

Hoffmanns best chance for a win is for keinle and Frodo to race each other into the ground for 18-20 miles. WAYYY to early to make a call but I didn't like how quickly Keinle charged up to Frodo when he had that mishap at the aid station.

Ryf won't get caught without a serious blow up. Rinny can still make the podium though. Ryf is looking very impressive.

I watched the entire 89 race coverage on youtube (7 part series) and timed where they were and when. Dave and Mark are full of shit (the legends always get better with age0. They were going slower than 6 min miles early. Dave was jogging and Mark was shadowing him. Yes Dave surged a bunch of times from his slow pace and Mark matched him so he just settled in.

Hey Troy.... thanks for posting....

I'm considering buying a Qollector and would like to use it at Miami 70.3 in 2 weeks. Any chance the course could be loaded up for the race so my coach/friends/family can track me?

You might be right on that. I think Hoff is pacing quite well. The two in the front, one of them is likely going to take the win and the other guy will move backwards to 5th place at some point (but 1-2 would be better for me as a fan). I just think they are going way hard
