Well maybe you don’t, but Canova and several others prescribe 40km training runs at 95-97% gmp to their athletes. Kipchoge runs a 40km tempo every week.

are you comparing world class runners to world class triathletes?

Their run training is nothing close to the same.

Tempo training run for Kipchoge. :-)

40km Tempo Run: 2hr26min – Very tough course, poor conditions (muddy etc)

How was the 112 mile ride prior? Pretty sure that didn't happen.

Facebook live coverage is a real step up.

Although Greg isn't convincing me on drug testing in Ironman.

You dont enter 140.6 and call it a training day, you dont go on a 26.2 mile tempo run in training.

^^^ Agreed. Not terribly smart thing to do, but he always has danced to his own drummer. Risks like this can often spell doom later.....

I’m saying that a long tempo isnt that controversial.

Oh I don’t disagree...

Just not a 42k tempo effort off a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike 50 ish days before the biggest race of your life.

I hope it works out for LS I really do. Hasn’t worked for many others.

Things not to do before a big race

-Do a big race
-Go Vegan

But seriously though seems by his bike pace is actually showing he is keeping power low. (Which defeats the purpose of this testing day).

Did Lionel go Vegan? He is looking incredibly lean, sometimes that it is counter productive on the bike.

Was off he internet all morning. What's going on with vegan-overracerboy? It looks like he came into T2 in a solid 4:28? Hey everyone saying he was shelled at IM Arizona last year after Kona, keep in mind when he jogged Kona in 2016 he was ready to rip it at IM Arizona and set the IM Arizona course record.

Although he's still got the hitch in his gait, I'd say his form on the run has improved a lot. He doesn't look like he's gonna die anymore.

Cody came to play today. He's not going to roll over and let Lionel just have it. Now Lionel has to choose if he wants to fight for the win or not. I don't think this is quite how Lionel saw things unfolding..and it's part of the jeopardy in racing an IM so close to Kona.

Beals bringing his a game...timing mats a bit off as it has him at 3:25/km for his last split.

As others have said nice to see a forum member and genuinely pretty nice guy doing well.

...long ways to go yet though!
