IM St George 2023?
Anybody know if there will be a full IM at St George next year? It's not listed on the IM website and I couldn't readily find anything on google.

They moved the 2021 IM to St. George because Hawaii was uncertain due to Covid. It seems that it will return to Hawaii in 2022 forward, unless Hawaii becomes uncertain again (for example, availability of cost-effective lodging for the larger field).

Everything gets jumbled about but I think the plan is still a 3 year rotation of St George, Coeur d’Alene, and [I’m not sure]. 2023 is CdA’s turn to host the full.

2023 is a 70.3 Year. The Full comes back in 2024. The question is: will they keep the same course as the one for the WC. I really hope they do. That course is epic.

Do you know if the full will be roughly the same time of year (late May?). Did they do the 70.3 one day and the full the following day this year?

Would like to do the full and our family would really like to do some hiking in Zion and area. May would be ideal for the family but less ideal for me to get ready for.

No, I think in 2024 it will be a Full only. No 70.3. However it should still be in the first Saturday in May.

Running downtown doesn’t equal epic. It was however when it was in the red hills.

The up and down nature of the course and the access for spectators is what made that course way better than going up to the Red Hills bench. Yeah it's pretty up there but there is little access for spectators and you're pretty much just going in a straight line. The WC course is much more dynamic. You're doing highways, side roads, trails, parks, neighborhoods, uphill, downhill, even parking lots! It seriously has been been the most challenging but most "fun" Ironman course I have run.

Most of the running for the full this year was done away from downtown. The run course was a little boring, though the section through the bike path was pretty nice, as was the turnaround loop through a small park.
Running 3 loops on red bluffs at 2pm would be fucking murder though if the same weather shows up again.

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment

Bumping this up, when will website details/registration for the 2024 full distance event be up? If it's first week in may next year then we should be seeing things soon?

I didn’t know this thread existed or I would have posted that info here as well.

The exact quote from the Ironman st George employee is “no full in the foreseeable future here”

It's strange there's no full as it was supposed to alternate, but I wonder if it's overload from the covid years.

Here's my thoughts:
They struggled to fill IM WC slots in STG and even before that they struggled to fill the IM that was canceled in the first covid year and rescheduled to what later became the WC. So.. low demand.

But also, I wonder. Maybe IM will leave the full off the table until after the Nice cycle is complete. Then I'm guessing they will say to Kona, "you sure you don't want 2 days again?" And when/if Kona rejects it they can come back to StG for the alternate gender cycle after Nice.

The plan has always been to have a full there in 2024 and it's even being offered as a deferral option. I think the info from FB you are quoting is wrong. I will be down there for the 70.3 this weekend and will try to get more details but every indication is that the full is happening in 2024.

Just want to be clear here. The information is from a person who in their profile says is an employee of ironman St. George and ironman 70.3 St. George. I googled her name and found and she is in charge of the finish line every year ie It’s not a random person from fb

That said I hope they are wrong and look forward to any info you find

Yeah its a 70.3 again next year

https://www.ironman.com/im703-st-george

With no Tulsa next year looks like there’s only Texas as a Spring IM in North America in 2024. Ugh

I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion yet.

I emailed the race a month ago and they informed me it will be a full in 2024.

As couer d’Alene and Utah switch each year

Technique will always last longer then energy production. Improve biomechanics, improve performance.

Perhaps they will rotate to Boulder for one year in 2024?

Damn that’s too bad. Any chance they run both simultaneously I wonder?

I hope that’s the case but I don’t think St G has done that in the past

I could see that happening. The bike course is very similar. Some riders would just keep going out towards veyo instead of out and back towards snow canyon and then wrap around and complete the additional snow canyon loop.

It's kind of the perfect situation for a half and full that doesn't require you to do a bunch of loops of the same bike course. The run course could just be the full course from last May with the half marathon doing just one loop.

I really like that idea. I hope they are thinking what you're thinking.

That is too bad! Are there any rumors on new spring locations for 2024?

That's true. I'd gladly do the half using last year's full course route as opposed to running on a golf course, wtf.

Hah, I actually enjoyed the soft down hill sections every time we hit the grass.

I happened to find a phone # to call on the ironman st george 70.3 website. I spoke directly to someone at the race and they told me in no uncertain terms there will not be a 140.6 in 2024 in St. George. It will only be a 70.3.

They did not have any information for beyond 2024.
