Just checked the NOAA buoy and water temp is 78 degrees, yesterday was 77............. looking forward to a fun swim either way

Forecast is now sunny with a (record?) high of 86. I'll bet most didn't think they'd get something closer to IMTX when they signed up for IMFL.

ya, a little cooler would be nice. Ontario, Canada had a cold/wet summer, so there was no real hot training opportunities.

Just had a great race in Chattanooga and will be racing in FL.

Expect a slower swim. Best of luck!
Thanks. I've been to the area many times on vacations so I know it will be a tough swim. I'm not expecting a fast split.

Why is the bike 4 miles less? Is there construction on the course in PCB?

Here's the NOAA website for the buoys in the area. They take measurements every 6 minutes and show 24 hours of data. At 0700 this morning the water temp was 76.3.

Every year people start to panic (or at least become concerned) that it won't be wetsuit legal, and every year this.

Now let's worry about the important things - jellyfish and sharks.

With the cooling of the water temperature here at PCB, there has been a sudden influx of tens of thousands of small jellyfish along with a good number of the 12"+ scary monster types mixed in. We're also seeing unusually large groups of stingrays... perhaps feeding on the jellyfish. The dear wife cut her afternoon swim ultra short as there was no way to avoid them. Hopefully they'll move along before race day.

They can't be worse than the snakes at IM Wisconsin.

Do the snakes have stinging tentacles too?

FYI - lots of jellies out there. Some large ones - but large groups of small clear ones. Those are the type that are not awesome to swim through. But they could be gone by this time next week - who knows. Good luck!

Please tell me more about these jellies. When I was at FSU, we used to go swimming at Mexico Beach, and there were often these softball size jellyfish we called cannonballs. We would throw them at each other for fun. They only hurt if you got hit in the back of the head unawares. Is this what we can expect, or are these something smaller, stingy-er, and less amusing?

not sure about jellyfish, but I've never been stung in hilton head during peak jelly season with a wetsuit on. felt several bumps on the suit...as long as you don't get them tangled in your hands or on your head, your good..at least the forecast looks awesome, who knows how accurate it will be come saturday, but calm water http://www.surfline.com/...h-florida-gulf_4434/

General question to anyone listening.

This past Saturday I rode 40 miles "all out" and then ran four miles easy.

My buddy thinks going all out for 40 miles, seven days before the race, was too hard an effort. My run taper has been three weeks (long runs of 20, 13, and 4 miles). My bike taper has been long rides of 100, 80, and 40.

Obviously, too late to change the past, but what says Slowtwitch?
