How to get your legs back after lots of flying time?

Ugh, finally home after a week of biz travel and my calves are killing me. Aside from stretching and using the Stick, anyone have other suggestions on how to get those legs feeling super-happy-terrific?

Welcome to my nightmare!!!!

My suggestion - a long slow swim.

Kick through slowly then elevate your legs afterwards.

Always does the trick

Great idea, I'll be in the pool tomorrow. I'll have to just find a nice bakery afterwards where I can put my legs up and eat a cinny bun or two ;-)

I have the same problem, it's (travelling) been the cause of most of my (lower leg) injuries. Massage seems to help. I just have to ease back into my run training after long flights or the soleus and achilles get tight.

Similar to you - hit the east coast twice in the last 10 days...I try to keep running while travelling then take the actual flying day off (maybe easy ride on the return) and ease back into it from there - shouldn't you be in Auz??

I've been re-habing my left knee and do a LOT of travel - every time I get off a plane - I feel like a crippled old arthritic man - it is the sitting in the shitty position you end up in that really hurts - and once the pain sets in - particularly on flights over 5 hours - it becomes a real drag for lack of a better word - to get on the ground and out of the flying cigar.

Just did a quick turnaround trip to Milan and on the way back I was hurting!

Our trip, which was booked eons ago (Jan) as we're going on points, has us leaving in just about 3 weeks. We get to race site very close to race day, needless to say coach is not happy about that!

Absolutely the best!

Elevating legs as soon as you get off the flight in the terminal for 15-20 minutes will also help.

those funny leg long compression socks... i have a pair arriving soon. nice and dorky looking.... cant wait to run in them... let alone sit at work all day with them.
