How smart are Etap blips?
A question for the new etap TT users out there (or the engineers and tinkerers):
Are the blips in the Etap system smart controls or just momentary push puttons?

If they are momentary push buttons, could they be hacked like the Dura Ace Di2?

Thanks,
Scott

First few links answers your question. Short answer no, SRAM says it is “more secure than any cash machine.”

You're a bit off there with your snark. Etap wireless communications are secure, sure. The blips are hardwired to a blipbox. They could be momentary switches, in which case it would be simple to hack or "diy" a custom setup. Or they could not be, in which case it wouldn't.

It would seem that you didn't understand my question.

Are there any embedded electronics in the blip button itself?

Nope. And I'm surprised more people haven't made their own. They seem pretty expensive for what they are.

I found some info over on the weight weenies forum:

Relative to the hacking I did for 7970 Di2, this looks a lot easier.
