I'm curious, because that isn't the stock seatpost. It looks like a normal seatpost inserted into the cervelo aero post. Am I imagining it?

that's the point...the seatpost is the normal one, but the piece on top that you can flip has been replaced by a no setback one.

Hmmmm,

looks like a Cervelo since the post is an aluminum extrusion and single rear facing fastener, but without the flippable thingie on top, I'd suggest it is an older model, possibly an early P3? or maybe a Soloist

Yeah yeah yeah :-)

I don't have time to read ALL the posts of a thread, only the ones with pics of sweet tribabes or bike porn, so please forgive me.

BTW, given that on a normal bike seat the standard Cervelo seat post can be adjusted so that with the seat all the way forward on the rails, with the seatpost in the rearward position, the seat is further forward than the seatpost in the forward position and the seat all the way back on the rails. Due to this overlap of possible seat positions, I fail to understand the need for a zero offset seatpost.

Then again, there's lots of stuff I want, simply because I want it. Go figure.

Maybe so the seat rails will be more centered? It could change the ride quality of the seat as well as the durability of the seat rails. Maybe not important, unless you are larger than the usual tri-waif. (I am, BTW)

I too am no tri waif. I am currently dangerously close to 200lbs and not nearly tall enough. I ride a Cervelo P2K with the seat post in the rear postion and the seat all the way forward onteh rails. It gives a deliciously comfy ride when combined witha QR neoprene seat cover. I ride a San Marco Aspide Triathagel, the one with the multiple reported titanium rail failures. I haven't had a failure yet, and I assume with my weight cantilevered on the rails, I would be a prime candidate for rail failure. I have about 3000km on the seat so it's early days yet.

All the above (proof is inteh pudding) seems to me to indicated a custom zero offset seeatpost is superfluous.

Unless this guy is just a basement tinkerer looking for something to pass the time, I really don't understand the "why" behind this. With the normal seat post there is over lap with the post flipped back and seat forward vs post flipped forward and seat back.

Well, suppose so....but it's not like anybody could tell once there's a rider sitting on top of it.

Any idea HOW the modification was done? I.e., what kind of seatpost did they use to create the new 'head' and what did they do to it to make it fit?

from the site:

the head is a pazzaz seatpost. the insert has been custom made and the head and custom piece are glued with metal-epoxy glu.

I think the zero-offset post would be a matter of security than looks. I think that the seat post head on the Cervelo could break because of the cantilevered design. I am certain that very few have broken, but some people have weird fears.

Another posibility is that rather than having the seat all the way forward on the rearward flip or all the way back on the forward flip, a zero-offset seems like the logical answer.

I just hope that it's glued in correctly.

Thanks, but I am more curious: what is the website that has info on how the rider made the modification?
