It's kind of old school. Trainers used to be designed this way. I personally was not a fan of them and found they put more stress on the frame.
They do work but the traditional computrainer that holds your rear wheel would be my choice.

A friend has one, and I use her CT on occasion. I like it, but the press on adjustment is a little harder to do. Otoh, the bike feels much more stable.
