I am able to get a run in over my lunch break, most days. Anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
Most triathlon training plans that I've used (most frequently use Trainer Road plans) has a 3 run week: a shorter tempo run, a Base+Strides run, and then a long run. Generally, I do the long run on the weekend or in an early morning.
The "strides" run is generally Rx'd at anywhere from 65-80 minutes (in a 70.3 plan).
If I run 4-5x's per week over lunch I effectively knock out that tempo run. From a training/effectiveness standpoint, does my 2X 40 minute runs equate to one longer run of 70 minutes or so? How would you formulate this?
As a time crunched athlete, I'm not trying to cut any corners, but rather more effectively use my time. Is there an "accepted" formula for frequency vs distance?
