The "buy the brand that fits" crowd should take note of this app, its interesting.

A bike will fall out of "match" range at one centimeter of delta. That is if the sum of reach and stack difference is 1 cm, no match. So, half a cm too high and half a cm too short, no match!

So if you had your eye set on the new Shiv-Tri, but the stack was ONE cm off

no match!

How many bikes would match if the delta threshold was 2cm?

3cm?

The application is helpful but it doesn't replace having an intimate knowledge of all the bikes out there and understanding how things like different aerobars will affect fit.

It would be kind of tough to have one application that covers all the parameters, especially considering the new breed of aerobars and superbikes with all the integration.
For example, how do you have one algorithm account for the differences in how a look 596 is configured vs. a speed concept vs. a scott plasma premium vs. a traditional arrangement?

Edit: would LOVE to see this adopted for road bikes.

I have always got by just fine by using:

http://www.visualtrig.com/

That lets me calculate the effect of stem angles, rises and lengths. Use Slowman's 1 for 3 rule for headtube/spacer length and you can get right there. I think Jack is right in the app could rule out bikes that could work just fine with an aerobar swap or stem flip.

Great app! I assume the Horizontal Seat Position number is based of your Exit bike?

How could you use this if you are given the following fit dimensions:

Seat Height: 81.5cm

Pad Height: 66.5cm

Seat to Pads: 49.5cm

Seat Angle: 81*

I dont understand the seat horizontal and seat verticle numbers? Where do they come from?

The EXIT fit bike.

Edit: I should add: that Ves designed and builds. In fact, he has a patent on X/Y fit bikes, which, being a complete ignoramus on patent law, always makes me wonder how some of the new fit bikes get around the fact they're strictly X/Y. Ves?

So you need to get fit on the Exit-Fit system in order to come up with the seat horizontal and seat verticle numbers???

I don't use an EXIT, but I'm fairly certain vertical is simply seat height in millimeters, though it's combined with the horizontal measurements (as, really, all saddle heghts are).

Basically, this is a nice little app Ves has offered up for those people who have purchased and use his fit bike. If you know what you're doing, you can still use it without the EXIT bike numbers. It's more of a time saver than anything else, but it's nice. I put it through the paces on three of today's clients and each time the app's results were in line with my own - it just did it faster. Very cool, Ves.

Glad you mentioned - that means people do notice "similarities"!
I am already taking legal steps to protect what I was granted by the US Patent Office.

I should probably apologize for bringing that up in a public forum. Should have been a pm - I will happily delete if you wish.

Hey Ves,
How about having separate tolerances for stack and reach?

Done. We just made a "Split" button that will let you have exactly that. Thanks Jonathan!
