Not sure about the entire article, my German is rusty, but looks like Lothar Leder??? Have to wonder if it's always been going on, or are guys just trying to hang onto their careers into the late 30's and 40+...Another guy that I raced a lot in the old days, oh well.........

Any idea if this is more common among former East Germans, vs West Germans, since that was a part of the East German Sports machine in the 70s-80s?

Lothar Leder did, like most pros except Llanos, voluntarily give blood for the new Ironman Frankfurt "iron transperancy". Starting now Frankfurt will test all the pros who will race there throughout the year. They will publish the test to make the results transparent.

Lothars test showed strong indications that something with his blood was wrong. Blood-doping or Epo... He was given the chance to explain and didn´t come up with answers that convinced Kurt Denk.

Kurt Denk (rd Frankfurt) then cancelled all contracts with Lothar Leder. He will not race again in Frankfurt or Wiesbaden (70.3).

HUGE topic in Germany, will get bigger on the weekend.

I start to like this "iron transperancy"! This is something WTC and NAS should be doing at all events.

Apparently they tested hematokrit, haemoglobin and retikulocytes.

From what I understand more than one of those tests came back abnormal.

All the 28 other Pros tested within normal parameters.

Wow, that certainly doesn't look good for Leder.
He had been really fighting hard to get back to the top. Maybe too hard....
