My problem with the 400 mile shorts is that they are always too big in the butt and crotch area compared to my Rivera shorts. The waist and leg openings fit great though...if I were to drop down a size, then the waist becomes too tight. Love all of the Desoto products except for the 400 mile shorts, just for this reason.

I can tell you that I have a 33" waist (maybe 32 now), and I initially bought a size L. They are fine, but certainly not tight, actually feel overly roomy in the ass. I bought a size M last week and after a ride in them believe they fit much better. So for you, since you are smaller than me, I'd consider the size S. With that said I've never had the issue be tightness in the waist as much as room throughout the short/chamois...but I'd still start with the S. Great shorts.

I wear a size S. I'm 5'6", 135lbs and a size 29 waist. They fit tight, but not uncomfortably so.

Rule of thumb per Emilio is to buy on the small size as the garments will be as tight as they ever will the first time that you wear them. From there they get a little bit looser.
