Great article! I appreciate her openness. We don't often hear much about her except for her training. I was surprised to see she moved on from Sutton, but it all makes perfect sense.

Agreed, nice to see some more about her personally. Holly Lawrence posted a nice comment about the article too and made the point that people do talk like she is a robot. Agree with that as well.

Not sure why the title of the article is about her sexuality.
For anyone who has followed her closely, it was fairly obvious.

The big story here is her leaving Sutto and sort of moving on from triathlon at some point (it's not clear ) as she pursues opportunities with her education.
She'll leave the sport on top on her own terms.

Edit: I notice her deal with Felt is until 2023, so I think we have a few more years of Ryf before she retires.

Good point on the “click bait” title... diminishes it a bit.

I interviewed her a couple of years ago and came away with many thoughts - the primary one being that she's a lovely person. I also suspected that she's had excellent media training: "partners" not "sponsors", subtle and smooth inclusion of those partners, and avoiding referring to her coach by name during the interview. I found her to be smart and thoughtful.

I think the title is actually important, given the context of this being a Swiss publication, Swiss society and her role model status in the country and triathlon. I really liked how she framed not liking labels and the article showed how she has adapted her outlook on life and life after triathlon with the pandemic. In German, the article was written a bit awkwardly (So many German interviews start with something like: "Subject X, are you happy?") but her responses were wonderful.

Enjoy!

Thank you for posting.

That article made me feel really sad, there was quite a melancholy tone to it.

She's always been a nice person and a gun athlete.

I prefer this insight to the monotonous drone shots and 'humble insights' we get bombarded with.

Thanks again.

Yeah the questions sound like tv lawyer at a court hearing, trying to package what she says as stark and dire

The article could've been way more positive since she had the success she fought for and is now in love and made some freeing decisions for new growth and opportunities

Good on her

I thought it was a nice article and I enjoyed getting to see some more of her personality.

I’m happy to see her move in from Sutton. He gets undeniable winning results but it seems to exact high personal price at least for his female athletes. They just seem to burn out.

Great article. It’s been easy to appreciate her excellence, but hard to know her as a person. In a dignified and modest way, this really does that.

Bad news for the rest of the women’s pro field. Sounds like she’s in a great place personally and probably wants to prove she can have as much or more success being self coached.

Love that honesty and what a great example for all. In terms of triathlon, brutally honest...just wanting to fill the hole that many athletes find when they retire...Triathlon is not soccer, basketball, tennis...and even she´s made money, not in the amount to spennd the rest of her life on holidays.... Besides, the demands of the sport can drive to anyone to some sort of burnout....
Then, she talks so openly about her sexuality. Well, we should not even be surprised as it should be considered as normal as being straight...in this sense, men should learn and normalize what is normal (you will not ever find a soccer player in Europe confessing he is gay...they will be bullied though)

Spaniard. Sorry for my english for the sensitive ones :P

The amazing thing is that you can actually see the moment she lets it all go and relaxes (Thanks in part to how Bob was talking to her).Watch from 20min as she is talking haltingly while breathing uneasily and at 21:45 when Bob says "I am Daniella Ryf and I choose to do what I wanna do, when I wanna do it",she gathers her hair, flicks it back, leans forward and smiles. That is a wonderful moment for her.

What do you mean it was obvious? I’ve been following her career and have watched some interviews and for me her sexuality wasn’t obvious;)

Maybe from her perspective a coach is fairly interchangeable and wanting to share with the public more about herself was high imporance to her. Good for Daniela and as you point out, it is great there are at least 2 more years where she wants to keep racing! I guess Lucy has to be 100% if Daniela's got a big fire to win.

You might want to get your "gaydar" fixed. She never said she was gay. She even said she's not sure what it's called to be able to love the person, regardless of it being male or female.

I didn't say she was gay either.
I just always perceived Daniela as neither a 0 or 6 on the Kinsey scale.
The English word she might have been looking for in the BWB interview is pansexual, but she didn't want to label it so that's cool too.
