Very sorry to hear you are leaving( have left?) Cervelo. The only reason I bought Cervelo was because of you and the only reason I stayed with them over the years was because you made sure questions, problems and challenges were properly and promptly taken care of . Hope to see you out with the Eagles next summer.

wherever you land, that company will be getting one of the top road bike engineers in the business. if you decide to continue doing what you've been doing.

Damon,

On a personal note, many thanks for the help (and fielding dumb Qs) as I went through my Cervelo upgrade last year. You were polite, patient, and kind - I really appreciate that and I thought I should tell you.

Best wishes in what ever you do . . . you have a fan club watching!

Damon,

You have done awesome work for Cervelo, both technically and also (soft sell) marketing here on ST. I have a couple of Cervelo's and part of the reason I've bought them is because of the Cervelo focus on engineering. CFD and actual wind tunnel testing beats eyeball aerodynamics every day :-)

You will be sorely missed at Cervelo for sure. Glad to hear you'll still be on ST. Now that you're leaving Cervelo, will you finally be allowed to update your own bike website? Start your own bike brand maybe? :-)

Just read on social media. Certainly wish him well and am sorry to see one of my favorite brands lose such a great guy.

The outpouring of well wishes and genuine affection for Damon says quite a lot. I bought my wife a Cervelo P2 and a Cervelo Road bike for myself in part because of the presence and customer support that I saw from him on this forum. I live in Madison WI and I think I have crossed paths with Damon a few times - I think he raced for my old team and I had friends that were Trek engineers. A stand up guy and well regarded by everyone. I hope this isn't reading too much like a "This is your Life, Damon", but you certainly deserve all the best in the future.

Seems odd. Someone of great talent, working for a top company in an industry he loves. Suddenly he's not there, and doesn't know where he'll go next. Something must've happened.

Hello Damon and All,

As others have said thanks for your participation here answering our questions on ST.

Saturday I was in Borrego Springs watching the RAAM quals and visiting with Tom Piszkin and he mentioned that you helped him get started with his Titanflex Bikes 'back in the day'.

Good luck to you in the future.

Cheers, Neal

I will tack on that the reason that I bought my first Cervelo was because of reading this board and seeing how quick the company (ie Damon) was to respond to queries. He is also the reason I bought my second and chose to repair and keep it as opposed to buying a new bike (likely from another brand).

Who knows the circumstances of the departure, but at least in my mind, Cervelo will be worse for his absence.

Whatever he does, and if he decides to go to another company when HR asks him for a list of references, he can provide that and then send a link to this thread. Wouldn't most of us kill to have an assortment of end customers posting endorsements about our performance without being asked to do so on the world wide web. This is like 10000x superior to staged Linkedin "recommendations".

This thread proves one thing that I always try to keep in mind...spend at least half the day on tasks that generate end customer value...if the other half has to be spent overcoming internal friction, generating reports, keeping people informed, or internal house keeping so be it....but generating end customer value is always gold and follows us around forever as we can see from the endorsements for Damon. Well done Sir!

It's a shame I just registered myself in the forum. If I would have known
Damon to leave Cervélo I'd probably not have bought a P5 :-)

If that is true then Cannondale might start to have some great TT/ Tri/Aero bikes finally. They better be paying him a SHITLOAD of money as they clearly do not have anyone of that caliber on their team currently.

It was hinted in another thread but it's true. It is a great hire for Cannondale, hoping to see more than just the run of the mill type bikes they have been shipping for years.

They better be making him head of R&D and any other department that needs an injection of AERODYNAMICS!

Having owned 8 Cannondales over the years but not having ridden one for 4 years (and the last was a CX bike, road and TT a lot further back) as they kept falling further behind the ball - I can see the potential to return to my former allegiance...

Denk (who was Cannondale) goes to Specialized.
Damon (who was Cervelo) goes to Cannondale. (not sure which one happened first)

So now the musical chair picture is starting to become a little clearer. I love Cannondale road bikes. Hoping Damon can bring some aero genius into their future products, ESPECIALLY a good TT frame.

This gives me hope that there will be a long and low super bike again someday, p4 was last of its kind as far as I know.

All the references he needs can be found right here in Slowtwitch. Thanks for being so accessible to everyday folks, Damon. You've always been a great help!

I just got my S3 from the Garmin team site (Tom Slagter's bike). Great deal since they made the same change you did. So I guess you like hangin' out with the Garmin guys?

All the best in the new gig!

I believe his titles at Cervelo were "Senior R&D Engineer" and "Race Engineer". And a quote from him in this interview:

Quote:
“I literally wrote the book on how to design Cervelos: The VWD Bicycle Design Guidelines”.

Wow. Then truly cervelos loss, and canondales gain.

The capabilities of what is called nano resin will be interesting for engineering & manufacturing optimized frames for riding (a little bit) faster. The last bigger stones are already turned around by Damon .. oSo >>
