D/A 10 Speed Bar End Shifters... Again
Sorry for the repeat. I think I saw posts some time ago pertaining to Dura Ace 10 Speed bar end shifters. After searching this site I can't seem to find it.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Will 9 speed bar ends work with D/A 10 speed? I'll assume in friction mode vice indexed?

2. Did someone say that (dare I say it) Campy 10 speed bars ends will work on D/A 10 speed?

3. Does anyone have any idea when D/A 10 speed bar ends will be available? I've heard this spring? True?

4. What did USPS use for bar ends in the TdF? (this one's not that important, but I'm currious).

Again, sorry for the repeat, but people are asking me... so I'm asking ya'll.

Hey Joel Smith, I'll take a crack at these based on what I know:

1. Not sure, haven't tried it.

2. Someone did say that, but I don't know if it is true.

3. I've been told they will be available "soon" from a couple bike companies and from Quality Bicycle Parts, a large wholesaler.

4. I think they used the 10 speed bar ends. I have seen them at Interbike. You can identify them because the rubber grip part is black, not gray.

-Sorry I'm not more help.

Regarding point 2, I believe Sergio said he used Campy 10 speed bar end shifters with a Shimano *9* cassette.

The only 10-10 compatibility report I have seen so far indicated that Campy 10 and Shimano 10 are not interchangeable.

You CAN use DA 9sp shifters with DA 10 if you use FRICTION SETTING (it works)

Between my tri bike, road and cyclo cross the only Campy shimano issues are that the Shimano Ultegra derailuer wont work with campy shifters. However all my 9 speed hubs either Campy or Shimano work either way. I cant test 10 speed world, but if the cog spacing is identical (which is the case for 9 speed) then it would shift fine. Why the derailuer matters is beyond me as it seems it would only move as far as the shifter allows it.
