What are your favorite practices/tricks for keeping cool on a very hot Ironman marathon run. I've done well preparing and completing hot HIM runs. I have a sauna and using it most days. And trying to do some training in the heat (but it's cold here now). I know to hold ice in my hands, stop and get ice water at all aid stations. Grab sponges if available. I'm good about pacing and think I have my nutrition figured out. Just looking for a few things I might be missing. Anyone using those new cooling headbands? Any sleeves you can buy to fill with ice and rest around your neck? Anyone use arm coolers?
I know the obvious stuff but trying to leave no stones unturned for what's going to be my hardest and hottest Ironman marathon run ever. And I've done the Barbados marathon (did well) back in 2017. And the PR 70.3. And Syracuse 70.3 when it was 90F. Did well on those events but a full very hot humid Ironman marathon will be uncharted territory for this northern girl especially being over 50 and losing hormones/heat tolerance. (please be kind here)
Death is easy....peaceful. Life is harder.
