GREAT JOB AGAIN!!!!! i can relate so much about the stress part.... when i had to defend my thesis for my PHD in procrastination, i didn't feel like showing up to the presentation and got there a few hours late......it was a success!

unfortunately, i will have to wait for CDA to get cookies as i don't think you are allowed to send them across the border!!!!

You CANNOT make Jodi bake cookies the week before IM! What are you thinking?!?

Maybe I will have to break down and pretend to have some domestic skills and then I can smuggle some cookies across the border for CdA carbo loading :) I'm sure they won't be as good as Jodi's but Dave does not generally complain!

hehehehe

The funny thing is, you're actually totally right. Last night I made 2 loaves of banana chocolate chip walnut bread. I love stressed out baking!

But I'm in no way discouraging Miranda from bringing cookies too! Carbo loading is very important, as you know...

Cool - love to hear your thoughts on the clavulonic acid and kidneys then ;) ...

Case Western, right? I lived on Coventry road right by Grumms for 4 years myself :)

Mmmmmm.... Grumms...

I lived about 1 block from there myself my first year of med school- I was right on the corner of Hampshire and Coventry. Great place to live. I miss that apartment!

I can tell you minute details of clavulanate and how it interacts with the class A beta-lactamase active site. Come on, you didn't think I would have studied something so relevant as how it interacts with the kidney!

Fantastic that you survived the thesis and the training at the same time. I'd buy you a congratulatory protein smoothie if you were in the neighborhood :)

Congratulations Jodi! Now are you starting the process to get the MD added to your name? So will next year be your first year of med school or have you already completed a couple of years of med school? Awesome accomplishment.

I have 2 years of medical school completed... not that I remember a single thing! It should be an interesting year, for sure. I have to go do a clinical refresher course starting Monday. Delivering babies 101 on Monday and Tuesday, and caring for very sick people Wednesday and Thursday. After 4 years break, I have to say, I am really looking forward to going back. The life in grad school and med school is so different. I'm ready for day to day stresses. PhD is like a huge weight that is always hanging over your head and you are the only one that can make it go away. Well, it's gone! Yay!!!!

On the other hand, I am going to get SOOOO out of shape this summer. After Ironman I go straight into a 6 week surgery rotation. Oh, well, such is life

The forum sucks...everyone has a PhD now...what the hell is this place?

Yeah, but our's are probably the only dissertations done in LaTeX.

Mine was in LaTeX. Then I went somewhere where everyone writes their papers in Word. Ick.

Oh, and more importantly, congratulations to Jodi.

I remember mine well. I was working with a tight schedule. I had a job lined up and needed to graduate on time. I showed up and found out that a critical member of my committee had jumped out of a plane and his parachute did not open! No kidding! I figured that I was screwed as I could not proceed without him. Turns out he had a streamer and hit the ground hard but was OK. He showed up 5 minutes late on crutches. Defense was no problem. Really, once your committee approves your dissertation proposal, you are over the biggest hurdle.

Well, I've done 9 years of research in infectious diseases (3 years schistosomiasis, 3 years malaria, 3 years bacteriology), so that would make the most sense. But... I want to keep my options open. I'll do my residency in whatever makes me the most happy in the next year and a half. Dermatology is sounding really good, for lifestyle reasons. Should be an interesting 2 years!

:-)
