Choose My Wheels

You have a budget of ~$1500 US dollars and you will race the following events:

* Wildflower
* Escape from Alcatraz
* 1/2 Vineman
* Big Kahuna

In case it matters, you'll be riding Cervelo P3SL (650c).

Buy a 400.00 Renn disc. With the remaining 1100, buy last year's Zipp 404 wheelset on sale. Run the disc and 404 on the front on any course where the disc is legal. Run dual 404's on any course where the disc is illegal. If it's really high wind, run the 404 rear and your regular training wheel up front.

Reynolds Stratus DV UL. They are in your range, or you could opt for the Stratus DV, which is about $400 cheaper. Reviews over the past couple months on this site have been more favorable towards Reynolds than Zipp (do a search), they just don't have as many people riding them and so they aren't talked about quite as much.

Titan's advice is perfect (in my eyes anyway)

Zipp 404s and a Renn disc when able

Actually, I kind of agree as well, but thought I'd throw out another option.

I agree. And you're still under budget.

On a black/silver p3sl, here's what I'd roll:

Renn disc. The kaiser to be specific. $500.

And then either a Corima 4-spoke (if you want to be really cool) or a Hed 3 (if you're slightly more conservative in your sense of style.)

Strip cheesy decals off them and highlight the spokes with silver reflective tape/decals.

That would be the friggen coolest Cervelo p3sl on the planet.

What kind of aerobars are you using?

Though, I should ask, is a disc illegal on any of those courses?

Great suggestion. This is exactly my setup.
