Looks like he mistook the camera/lighting arch for the finish. Surprising for a pro, since Mt. Faron is used a lot, and pro summit finishes usually come a few meters after the actual crest so the riders can stop without tipping over.

thats a good view - riders eye whereas i've previously only seen looking backwards.
you can see how he made that mistake - the camera gantry has some big signs on the side and there seems to be a line of some sort on the road underneath it. the actual finish line is barely noticeable at that point with only small arches, nothing actually across the road like normal and the line on the road is not visible thanks to the slope.

real shame as he looked like he had it in the bag but probably got a bit overexcited/exhausted and didn't think it through clearly
