Blisters

At races I have seen people wearing what appears to be some form of wrap or bandage covering the midfoot. What are these? I don't wear socks when racing and need something better than HTFU.

Are they worn during the race? Wouldn't they come off in the swim? Do they really prevent blisters? If you have to put them on in T2, why not just put socks on?

you can use superglue the night before on any spots that blister. or you can try about 5 coats of liquid bandage, which is more flexible, but sets up really slow. you'll also need a lot of it.

I believe they are taped for other reasons. Football players do this for some reason.

As an aside, best anti-blister socks ever:

I like to do 1-2 coats of new skin; then a coat of superglue. Then you have a bit more flexibility AND the protection of the superglue.
