I have not been impressed with any of the shops in auburn. They cater to the university crowd. Which means they sell a lot of entry level mountain bikes. If I were still living in auburn I would go to Atlanta or birmingham.

First of all, tell him WAR EAGLE!! I went to Auburn and love it...yes we are having some football issues, but love it anyway!!

I didn't ride when I was there and wasn't into triathlon yet, so I am not sure on what all they have, but there is a Bike Shop on College, here is the link:

Also, the Montgomery Bike Club is a good group, about 45 minutes away that might be of some benefit. They put on a great century in late August, early September that I've done 2x (there are other distances as well). Here is their link:

Lastly, I'm not sure if the group is still training and/or racing together, but the Auburn Flyers is the collegiate group of cyclists. The tri group comes and goes.

Hope some of this is helpful.

If you come to Birmingham, we have several GREAT LBS that have both tri & road and also have a specialty running store that is second to none! Here are their links:

Trak Shak (3 locations) http://www.trakshak.com/

Cahaba Cycles/ Homewood Cycle & Fitness (several locations) http://cahabacycles.com/

Bob's Bikes (where my bike came from) http://bobs-bikes.com/

Bike Link http://www.bikelinkbham.com/

We are very blessed here to have a lot of really great places to get gear and such! No tri specific stores, but everyone knows their stuff at each place. If you need shoes, make the drive to Bham... my experience with the running shops in Auburn (and I did run while there) didn't know feet and didn't know much about shoes and tried to put me in the wrong shoe (even recently).

of the 6 million pages we serve per month, one of the most popular pages every month is our retailer database intro page. we'll serve over a million retailer database pages to viewers over the next 12 months.

no alabama shop is currently in that database. it seems a shame that if these shops are really that good, they aren't listed. perhaps you might alert these shops.

you can rate these retailers, write written commentaries about them, and these retailers have the availability to add or change their database entries as the need arises. perhaps they aren't doing so because it's free to them. maybe if we charged them $25 a year, they'd think there's a value to it and they'd take the time to avail themselves of the great value afforded them ;-)
