Are you doing housings too, or just cables?

One thing I would recommend is a good quality cable cutter (just got a Park one for $30 at Performance) vs. using generic cable cutters from a hardware store that tend to mash/fray the cable more.

One last tip: Use a dab of superglue on the cable ends (instead of the Aluminum crimp-on cap) to prevent fraying. IMO it looks cleaner, and means I can remove the cable from a shifter or brake w/o recutting it.
