He should have dumped 10lbs of poop before the race with squat potty.

All that was proven was that, even with all the magic bracelets in the world, not training for an Ironman will result in a slower overall time.

Who's to say he didn't?

I'll take Ben squatting over the port-o-pot over Barrett Brandon pissing where I have to walk in the change tent any day.

You had a respectable finish given the amount of race specific training you did and your decent level of base aerobic fitness. It might have been a classier touch to walk up to the camera and thank Timex for the opportunity.

Hands up who stood at the weigh in, flexed their biceps and shouted ".. This is a bench pressing machine! .." at the top of their voice.

Number of professional female Timex-sponsored triathletes who have been averaging 20-30hrs per week training with (I assume) the goal of making it to Kona?
>>> (at least) 5

The lack of publicity around this "stunt" only makes it more clear what a waste of a spot it really was in allocating to a polarizing figure with very little preparation involved. What does this prove to anyone? That you can half-ass training and do okay? That sounds like a recipe for disaster at Kona...

Not taking the bait.

Interest level in Timex: ZERO.

I am interested in why they would want to be associated with underachievement. Maybe they are going after the sedentary market.

Something good did come out of it. The result that if you don't do specific SBR training but clearly do a lot of other training then you achieve poor results in a triathlon. I think running up to the camera to boast of your results would be better saved for when you had trained, had made sacrifices and then done something worth shouting about. Doing it when you have done the opposite and fared poorly just seems slightly ridiculous.

I'mm confused. Timex somehow gave this guy a kona entry to prove he could finish without doing any swimming or running in training? If you hate swimming and running, why would you want to do a triathlon at all? Just so you can tell people you are an "ironman"? Blech.

I don't like what you're implying.

His magical unicorn bracelet gives off happy rays that sometimes interfere with race timing.

he missed the timing mat at mile 19
which is in the vicinity of the energy lab
doesn't look like he could have skipped it though unless he took a nap also

As much as BG makes me roll my eyes at almost everything he says, I don't think anyone had a mile 19 time.

I doubt that Timex's was going for that... They simply had an extra slot and decided to give it to this narcissistic douchebag who in turn made it a point to show how much of a stud he is by finishing an IM on no training and show the rest of us dumbasses who train 20h / week for a race like this that he's the man.

I agree. He demonstrated that when you don't train you go a lot slower than when you do train. This answers a question that was on a lot of people's minds.

I'm glad that he got this spot rather than someone taking the race seriously, or some age grouper who dreamed of going to kona just once in her life.

Instead, a guy who has done it before got to go and show us that training matters. Because we weren't sure.

I would like Little Debbie to sponsor me in Hawaii next year. My thesis is that if I eat a lot of their products, I won't be as fast.

I would track your race, on the absolute hope that your hypothesis is wrong!

Let's make this a thing. Little Debbie, Hershey's, Wendy's, Tim Horton's. I'm looking at you. Make me fat, make me slow. I will run across the finish line with a Timbit in my hands (and fat cheeks).
