Finally, the advertised BQ time is the time that gets you into the Boston Marathon. This just in:

Dear athlete,

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) proudly announced today that all qualified athletes who submitted applications during the 2022 Boston Marathon registration window (November 8-12) will be accepted into the April 18th race, provided their qualifying time is verified. For the first time since 2013, the “cut-off” time is 0 minutes and 0 seconds.

“I am delighted to share that everyone who applied with a valid qualifying time will be joining us for the 126th Boston Marathon,” said Tom Grilk, President and CEO of the B.A.A. “It will be a historic return to Patriots’ Day and I am pleased to welcome this dedicated group of qualifiers back to the roads of Hopkinton to Boston on the third Monday in April for the first time in three years.”

Nearly 24,000 applications were submitted over the five-day registration window. The B.A.A. is currently in the process of verifying and confirming all qualifying time submissions. Applicants will receive official notice of acceptance by early December, once their qualifying time has been approved and credit cards are successfully charged. Athletes who have been officially accepted into the race will also receive more information on the process to provide proof of vaccination or request a medical exemption. Applicants are asked not to send additional qualifying information to the B.A.A. unless specifically requested by a B.A.A. official.

The 126th Boston Marathon will feature a field size of 30,000 participants, and all athletes must be fully vaccinated in order to participate in the race.

The qualifying window for the 127th Boston Marathon, scheduled to take place on April 17, 2023, began on September 1, 2021. Registration details for that race will be announced following the 2022 Boston Marathon.

Frequently Asked Questions for Athletes
When will official notices of acceptances and non-acceptances be emailed?
Notices of acceptance or non-acceptance will go out in December.

Why will there be notices of non-acceptance if everyone will be admitted into April’s race?
The B.A.A. is verifying all qualifying times that have been submitted as part of the 126th Boston Marathon application process. Any athlete who submitted an invalid time, a finish result for a distance other than a qualifying marathon, or a time not within the designated qualifying window will be notified of non-acceptance.

When will credit cards be charged? My credit card has been charged/it appears entry fees have been withdrawn from my bank. What does this mean?
Credit cards will be charged in December. Upon submission of your application, your credit card has been authorized for payment. If your application is accepted, only then will your credit card be charged the non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable entry fee. You may notice a preauthorization draft on your credit card statement. The actual charge will not appear on your credit card until your entry has been verified and accepted. Only athletes who are accepted into the Boston Marathon will be charged the entry fee.

My Athletes’ Village profile says my qualifying time has been verified. Does that mean I am in?
The B.A.A.’s Athlete’s Services team is actively verifying all applications and qualifying times that were submitted as part of the application process for the 126th Boston Marathon. If your Athletes’ Village profile features a green qualifying time, your time has been verified by our team.

My Athletes’ Village profile says my qualifying time is pending verification. Do you need more information from me?
No, the B.A.A. will reach out to any athlete who needs to send additional information. Even if your status is listed as “pending verification” in Athletes’ Village, if you have submitted a valid qualifying time and current credit card, you will be admitted into the race.

When will non-profit organizations be selected as members of the 2022 Boston Marathon Official Charity Program and the John Hancock Non-Profit Program?
Organizations will be announced in early December.

Will 2022 Boston Marathon registration re-open to qualifiers?
Registration for the 2022 Boston Marathon was open from November 8-12 for all qualified athletes and will not re-open. Registration information for the 2023 Boston Marathon will be announced after the conclusion of the 2022 event.

When does registration for the 2023 Boston Marathon open?
Registration information for the 2023 Boston Marathon will be announced following the conclusion of the 2022 race. The 2023 qualifying window began on September 1, 2021.

You’ll get responses telling you that you don’t need to, but especially if this is your first Boston, I’d spend the money to stay within walking distance of the finish line. Book as soon as you can. It probably won’t get any cheaper.

I'm looking now. Is the seaport district too far? Looks like about 2km. There's really not much closer than that or cambridge for under 800 per night....

Near the finish line is best (and most expensive), but bear in mind that you can't take a hard left or right immediately after the finish-you'll be funneled down the same direction for a few hundred meters upon finishing. The streets are closed off for a couple of blocks past the line, so the best hotel is past the finish line, rather than before the finish line. Good luck!

It’s probably more like 2.5 to 3 miles, and it’s not an easy walk. It’s also fairly isolated from the rest of the city. You’re better off in Back Bay, Copley Square, the Theater District, or Downtown/Faneuil Hall areas. There should be some decent hotels in the Theater District or Downtown for $400-ish a night.

Sheraton near Copley Plce, or Omni Parker House downtown (opposite side of Boston Common from race finish)??

I’m booked for the Sheraton already. It’s very convenient. I’ve never stayed at the Omni Parker House, but the location would be fine.

And who forced you to read it? Why not go start another thread on disc brakes.

Congrats on your Boston slot. Obviously - when people start multiple threads on the same subject, it is annoying to those interested (like me) a lot more than those disinterested. Especially that it doesn't take a Herculean effort to notice that there already is a thread in the middle of on Page 1 of the forum.

I'm never thought I had seen this level of gouging before: $800 a night and minimums 3-4 night stays. Outrageous!!!

Who know how to do this on a reasonable budget? Can you catch a uber for cheaper than $300 to get you back to an hotel on the outskirts?

I've not done the Boston Marathon before but I have travelled to Boston a few time. The subway is excellent. The hotel we stayed at on the outskirts wasn't right at a stop but they had a shuttle to the subway stop. Not ideal but not $800 either.

I've never seen cash prices so crazy as Boston during race weekend. I booked early with hotel points from credit cards, well before knowing if my wife would get in.

The metro system isn't too bad before or after the race, so look a little further out on the west side. Haymarket area near North Station is reasonable too. I would avoid the seaport area if you're planning on walking to using public transit.

You can take an Uber or cab, and I’ve never stayed right at the finish. One problem with Uber is the streets are so jammed that you might have to walk a while and still be stuck in grid lock for a while once your in a car. I’ve taken the subway from the finish and that worked well.

I stayed on the north end of town and took the subway to and from the race without an issue. Not the most ideal walk after the marathon but cheaper than $500+ per night.

So after hearing about the subway option I opted for a hotel at the airport and plan to use the subway to get around. Does that sound workable? It's definitely cheaper and I'll have a 5am flight the next morning after the race :(

You’ll be fine in seaport. It’s been redone completely in the last 10 years…there is also Row 34 and Trillium to go to afterwards to celebrate.

Wow this is giving me some serious FOMO. I'm fairly confident I can run the BQ time, but -5min would be asking a lot. Was signed up for Berlin until I got injured for the first time in 5 years and had to skip it.

I hope this carries through for a couple years!

The T excellent? Idk about that. I wouldn’t take it commuting from downtown to Fenway when I lived there nevermind during the marathon.

you will spend $40 a cab ride. while a super close airport that doesn't really make the hotel + cab cheaper than a more expensive hotel and it is certainly not convenient at all. one year i stayed at the Marriott Cambridge across the river and was good and it was cool to tour Harvard and MIT day after the race. Its listed at $319 a night on the marathontours.com portal. 2022 Boston Marathon - Hotels - Marathon Tours and Travel

I would recommend north end, Faneuil Hall and Waterfront areas are good with nice bars and restaurants with subway to convention center. quite a few options there. $350ish a night there. Honestly its worth it to be there.

Otherwise things go into $480-$590 a night for places like Ritz, 4 seasons etc. closer to finish.

Thanks for that hotel booking link, i've never used that before. My qualifying time still says "pending verification" so i guess i'll hold off booking anything until thats 100% confirmed.

Trying to find what is the latest day and time to check in for the race? Are they as strict as Ironman for check-ins (late checkin available)?

Historically you can get your bib through Sunday afternoon. Not sure how late they go. Certainly don't plan on doing it Monday morning.

The expo is usually open for bib pickup until 6:00 pm the Sunday before the race.
