Bridge Swim is 'on'!!! Now ...if it is 'smart' the day after 202 miles on the bike... I don't know. Trexlera? TC?

I've been complaining that I have a four day conference in Las Vegas through the Saturday, but I think you just stole my excuse that I'll be too tired for the Bridge Swim...

I'm usually all about doing stupid stuff, but I wouldn't want to go into the bridge swim in a super calorie debt, nor would I want to do it on really tired legs... if you could do a relay, that might be more reasonable.

11 miles swimming is really frickin' long. At 2:30 in last year before we got pulled out, I was already starting to think hmmm.

Also, I got an email from the RD this morning and I am remembering how awesome it was to go under all those bridges.

(8.5 mi run + 2800 yards for me this AM. main set 5 x 500, fourth one as 5 x 100 on 2:00 fast held 1:14s)

Yep, richmond cup! I live about an hour away from Richmond so it's nearby. It'll be my first draft-legal race.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I wish they had one of those down here in Texas.

A good one this morning and held accountable by coach. After a long warm up:

20x100@2:00 as 5x (70%/80/90/100). I had goal times in my head of 1:12, 1:09, 1:06, 1:03 but coach revised to 1:07, 1:05, 1:03, 1:01. Tough but glad she pushed me.

Then moved to the LCM pool for 16x100@1:00

4000 SCY this morning followed by a trip to the doc.

8 x 500

and a diagnosis of a sports hernia. Swimming and running are going to suck for a while. Worse yet, racing season starts here next months and 9 weeks until my 'A' race

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Whats the prognosis for how much you're able to do while you're recovering?

I'm excited. My goal is to swim as hard as I can and hope it's enough to have someone around to work with, or maybe find fast feet and make a pack. Then, hammer the bike to catch up or keep up, and see what I can do on the run after flattening myself!!!

Today was a pre-race day with my first race of the year tomorrow. Super easy 4 mile run in 30min, then 4x100 strides.

The plan for tomorrow is to see how I can run after hammering the ride (never tried it before!). I'm pumped!!

That's moving!

To give you any idea of swim speed, i'm about 5:10-5:15ish and for 500 yard free and I was out around top 15 I believe last year. The chip time got screwed up, but yeah. I was 1st pack that was chasing a small group of 4 before I ended up DNFing after like 2.5km. The year before I was 4:56 in the 400 free (which is like 5:30ish 500 free??) and I was 35thish out of the water and in 2nd chase.

"My life is complete!"
That's what the SUP next to me in the ocean said as a mother whale and her calf passed just 10 feet in front of me. I stopped swimming so as to not get too close - don't want to upset a protective momma. I was swimming with a group of young women training for a Catalina relay attempt and waited to ask if they saw the whales. They were about 5 feet from me when another whale swam between us. Had to cut my swim short at 1.4 miles because the water was 57 degrees and I was shivering as I returned to our starting point. My plan was to do two laps. Just too darn cold!
I decided to head to the pool to warm up some and continue my swim and tell poolmates my whale of a story.

That's awesome!!!!

Back from my race - was the second best junior elite (first one was the overall winner). Won 16-19 by 58 seconds over the next junior elite kid!

Swim: 300M in 4:17 (chip time 4:27 includes run to T1). Kept it at a moderate intensity since I was about to do my first flying start on the bike in a race and did NOT want to screw it up!
Bike: 10mi in 26ish min (23mph) Felt blech. My quads were tired almost immediately. Course had a fair bit of wind.
Run: 5k in 19:15ish Felt like hell, of course! Mowed a few people down and found my legs by the 1.5 point. Headwind going out.

Pretty happy!! Overall results aren't up yet- a few top age groupers in the country as well as some regional pros turned out so I'll be curious to see how I fared.

Getting on the trainer now for an easy hour spin. Allergies are getting pretty bad.

Hold mackerel that is fast. Curious what kind of times you swim in your races? Sub 50 IM? I mean damn! A 60 second 100m works out to a 52.38 100 scy......x 16. Certainly you didn't mean leaving on 1:00? Shit!

ahhh~ just finished the end of the thread gotcha. i was thinking damn! one of the local kids swam at mesa yesterday and he can't even do that set and he is an other world freak!

Nothing hard this morning, legs tired after racing Saturday and a 2hr ride with intervals on Sunday.

500ez
Fins on 5x100 odds kick evens drill
15x200 pull cruise on 3:00 every 3rd with paddles
(All 2:44-:47 and 2:40ish with paddles)
4x25 all out kick
4x25 sprint no breath
100ez
4300scy

Didn't push the 200s at all but still swam them faster than usual, and I had the drag suit. I'm starting to feel like I've got the strength to keep the elbow high throughout the pull, which I've always struggled with.

Another ocean swim on Sunday. Water warmed up to 60, but still a short swim – just 1.4 miles and no whale sightings, but saw a big (2 ft long) blue fish.

yesterday 2:30 bike

today 11 mi run attempting to watch Boston - all the TVs at the gym were on CNN, ESPN, CBS and all they talked about was "today's the Boston marathon and two years ago there was a terrorist attack." Then they showed pictures from two years ago. 2000 yd swim, then got into my office in time to see the elite men finish.

500 w/u
4 x 125 kick the last length of each
2 x [2 x 50 fast + 100 fast, with 50 easy after each] :34s on the 50s, 1:09, 1:10 on the 100s
250 or whatever c/d to hit 2k
