Anyone use this ITB strap/brace?

I'm STILL having ITB problems and basically need to go on a serious stretching and core strength programme, which will be done over the winter layoff.

Anyway, has anyone used one of these straps? Is it effective? Do you actually run with it on?

This is the one I use, but for all I know the one you posted may be better. You might try both. To answer your question, I use it religiously both biking and running. From what everyone says, different things work for different people, but this worked great for me. That, and using a foam roller (actually I also have the Trigger Point Technologies QuadBaller). I would certainly recommend it, because I am running a marathon in 3 weeks and it has helped me get there!

Give it a shot, for the money, its well worth the try.

Thanks. In fact, last night I bought the following:

http://www.mcdavidinc.com/brace/prods/414.htm

Very similar with a rubber protusion that is designed to put pressure on the ITB and alter the point of tightness in the band thereby taking some pressure off the friction over the knee joint (??) I'll give it a go and see how it works.

The foam roller is a regular part of my workout these days and about the only thing that is consistent with positive recommendations. There are certainly no quick fixes out there.

I'm meant to be doing a 100km race the weekend after next but had a major flare up the other weekend. My physio tells me there is little risk of long term damage because if the problem flares I'll be brought to a halt in a quivering mess from the pain, long before any permanent sideaffects. That's exactly what the body is telling you : "STOP!". Pain is a self defence mechanism.

I'm having intensive physiotherapy, ultrasound and rest ahead of the event. I'm kind of figuring on eating Ibuprofen like it's going out of style, applying regular topical anti-inflammatory gel to the side of the knee, possibly wearing the above brace and basically gritting my teeth if it hits.

The problem being the race is over some pretty hilly terrain and there's a lot of downhill trails where the problem really erupts and it's done in teams of 4. My teammates are aware of the problem but we're yet to decide if to bring in an alternative at late notice.

Who knows? I'll go into it with the full expectation of hurting at some point.
