Question. I thought the TdF always had a stage that climbed the Alp d'HUez. I don't get OLN, but I didn't read about it this year. Obvioulsy I'm wrong. How often does it not have such a stage?

I believe that they set the route a year in advance, basically towns bid for the honour of hosting the start or finish or both, believe it costs in the region of 200,000 Euros, the route is then set around these towns, generally Alpe D'Huez features about every three years I think

It's typically every other year that they use it now. Although they used it in 2004 and 2003 back to back.
I guess it'll be back in in 2006 or 2007 at the latest. An amazing mountain - you should take the time to visit it.
