A bit OT: Calvin and Hobbes
Read this on CNN.com http://www.cnn.com/...oonist.ap/index.html. Anyone else miss Calvin and Hobbes? I get a Calvin strip emailed to me every morning from the ucomics site, and the other day it was another one with Calvin's dad coming in from a bike ride in inclement weather, and riding aero! I remember another one where he talked about heart rate zones. This guy was a triathlete before most of us were!

There is a box set out..."The Complete Calvin and Hobbes"

3 box set, VERY nice if you are a Calvin and Hobbes lover. Some are in color, most are black and white. My hubby has it on his wish list for Christmas.

In Canada, it's $200 but if you go to chapters.ca, it's only $140.

Ever since Calvin and Hobbes went off print, I have not had the heart to look forward to the Sunday comics anymore.

"Dilbert" was way too close of a copy of my actual worklife for my comfort.

I cried when I read the last strip. It still sends chills up my spine. that feeling that the whole world is out there, the desire to see it, be it, touch it, all with your best pal in tow...

*sniffle*

Loved the strip - now my kids are into it - we have about every book - KK my 13 years old is reading one right now and laughing out loud!

Her favorite is when Calvin tell Hobbs - I lost my marbles - Hobbs says - Everyone suspected that much - Calvin says maybe I'll find them later - in the last square - Calvin wakes about in the middle of the night and says "HEY"

The Detroit Free Press made my year when they started running old strips. Reruns are almost as good as when Opus returned for Sundays.

Certainly my favorite, I have all of the individual books. Have not looked at them in some time, I will have to go back and look for his pop on the aero bike.

Thanks, good memories.

I use one as the motto for my engineering outlook. It's the one where his toaster burns his toast and he sighs: "If you see how well basic appliances work, it's hard to believe anyone ever gets on an airplane."

There are many strips that immitate or emulate the style of Calvin & Hobbes, but none that succeed in being as magical or fun.

I race duathlons and like it.

In Grad school, one of my buddies, thanked Calvin and Hobbies for getting him thru. Very cool to read that in the printed bound version of his thesis. I was not so bold in my thank yous.

Rick.

Ciao!

Gerard, the fact that you posted that just sold an R2.5. I've been waffling for weeks ona new Prince SL, or an R 2.5 (yeah I know their very different...) and I just flat couldnt make up my mind. I have ridden the 2.5 quite a bit, and I own a Prince, so I know what I'm looking at, I just couldnt make up my mind. knowing youre a C&H fan tipped the scales.

I told my wife and she said, "is that the Cervelo guy?" I said "yes" she said "get the Cervelo, you can't go wrong."

:)

I read somewhere that the sabbatical was only supposed to be for ten years. I hadn't realized it's BEEN ten years since he retired.

I miss Calvin & Hobbes. I read it when I'm sick and still have all the treasuries by my bedside.

The sad thing is that the people who have window stickers of Calvin peeing on a Ford or Chevy logo - for the most part - have NO IDEA who he was, and couldn't grasp the humor anyway.

1st panel:

Calivin: "What are we having for dinner tonight, Mom"

Mom: "Baked monkey skulls, why?"

2nd panel:

Dad: "How did you ever get Calvin to eat stuffed peppers?"
