I am really looking at a new aerobar set up for this season. I am just not in love with my original profile carbon X's anymore. {lease tell me what the difference is between 26.0 and 31.8? Is one more universally used than the other? Difference in durability? comfort? Does it even matter?

Re: 26.0 vs 31.8 What's the difference besides the diameter? [carboner]

"Does it even matter?"
Not really. One might claim that the larger diameter is stiffer. Mmm... okay. I've got both, and quite frankly can't tell the difference. I can see where the larger diameter might give a better clamping of the bar (less tendency of the bars to rotate). Other than that... Both are becoming a widely used standard.

Just a minor thing.
If you stick with the 26.0 standard most of the clip-on extentions are made for 31.8 and the ship with a shim(s) to help mount the bars. Trying to keep the shims in in exactly the right place while you mount the clip-ons becomes a bit of a challenge. You'll need a 4th or 5th set of hands to keep everything lined up!
