2021 Age Group Nationals
Who's going?

I haven't raced AG Nats since 2015 (when I got smoked - 2:07 was good enough for 199th place). Was that just an insanely fast year or what?

Is the race going to be that fast this year since everyone is champing at the bit to race?

Can’t wait to sit in the shade and watch all you try-hards on Saturday, then redline it on Sunday.

My buddy caught me at run mile 2 of a sprint on Wednesday and won by 5 seconds…highly motivated to get him back in Milwaukee.

I'm going; in for the sprint on Sunday and the swim competition on Friday morning.

Anyone else bringing a wetsuit? I wasn't going to bother, but at 750 meters I think the swim might be just long enough to justify the removal time.

In for both days.

I think the last time I did it was 2016, in Omaha iirc.

Was completely shocked at the number of people who came in for the sprint. Somewhere just under 500 did both races and there were > 1200 people for the sprint. #mindblown

I would have bet many dollars that the Oly was going to be the tougher, deeper race. I would have lost them all.

First time for me, too (at age 58). Still in later stage of rehab for Achilles Tendinopathy injury last year, so not harboring any illusions that I'll finish close to the fast folks in my AG. Going more for the overall experience. That being said looking forward to seeing how I stack up at that level.

I'm absolutely bringing mine. IIRC, that water was freezing for this former-Florida boy.

My Milwaukee experiences in ‘13 and ‘14 were that the Olympic race was deeper. I did the sprint in ‘14 specifically because it was my best shot at Chicago Worlds in ‘15. Plenty of fast folks in both races!

I'm in for the Olympic in the M65-69. I did Cleveland in '18 and '19, but this looks like a much bigger (and competitive?) field. With that and two more voyages around the sun since the last one, I hoping to squeeze into a top 10. A boy can dream, can't he?

89 in M65-69. Gonna be crowded out there! Raced Milwaukee 2013-15, great venue.

If you are in my age group I would suggest you shouldn't bother.

I will be there for the Sprint (late pickup for the sprint on Saturday was the decider). Normally AG podium in local events, expect I am just doing this for the experience (which is ok, as I was coming to the area for a vacation anyway and the timing only required one extra day).

I saw the "no bags in transition" rule- how do you get all your stuff to transition? I was thinking I could put it in a trash bag I guess. Any tips for a Nationals AG noob?

There will be a clear bag in your race packet for transition stuff. You put everything you need in that clear bag and bring it into transition. Then if desired, you can check items in the clear bag at a check in tent and they hold them while you race.

I'm there for both races.

Second Nationals for me and just glad to be (hopefully) turning up without any injuries after picking up a few niggling issues over the last few weeks.

It will hopefully be a big celebration of racing being back!

For those interested in water temps.

In case anyone else might be wondering, the cutoff for USAT is 78 degF, as opposed to 76.1 degF for Ironman races.

And for this race in particular , wetsuits won't be optional for anyone if it's above 78

Right 78.0 is wetsuit legal -- 78.1 is not.

What about 78.09999999999 down to 78.0000000000?

Triathlon Canada uses 22C as the cutoff for 1500m. This is 72F. I find that quite cold.

In any case, best of luck

How is this race not gunna be wetsuit legal? The water temp shows 72 right now (unless I’m reading it wrong).

What does placing at AGN in Milwaukee 2021 qualify you for?

Team USA and a chance to race at USAT Worlds (the Wolrds of oly distance), which I believe is in Abu Dhabi in 2022.
