2005 Nationals are in KC - what do we know about course
Quote | Reply
Does anyone know anything about this course. USAT says it's about 10 miles outside Kansas City "amid rolling hills and grasslands" and the swim will be in Smithville Lake. Does anyone have a sense about how hilly the course is?

i don't know anything specific about the course, actually have not seen exactly where it is, but I did live inthe general area 4 years ago.

Flying into KC is very easy. the airport is small by most standards. the race venue is not far fromthe airport. there will be more than enough accomodations. the area was growing in 2000, so i would imagine everything is relatively new (hotels, shopping, resteraunts, ect.) This area of MO is a bit rolling, but nothing huge to climb. shoudl be managable for everyone, but definately not flat.

one issue is the weather. sept. can be hot as hell. even if the heat is down I would expect mid 80s at best. sun can be quite strong and there is always the threat of strong storms.

The race is in July, not September. Yes, it could be very hot and it could also be very mild. Depending on how the early summer goes, there is probably a 75% chance this will not be wetsuit legal.

I'll also second what others have said on the message board - If Mark Livesay is putting on this race, it WILL be well run. He's one of the few that could set up a race this quickly and make it run as good as it can.
