I'm waiting until it hits 60 f to head out. No one is paying me to do this.

Rider revolt! I think they just up and quit. I love how the breakaway just kept on going for like 15 minutes after everyone else stopped.

UAE race is always fascinating to me, getting a superficial tour around this world.

Today’s Dubai stage was a bit of a snooze, but a major flex of wealth and opulence. Capped off by a sprint win for the home team.

Yeah, I also have a fascination with the desert, and also the utopia/dystopia of the oil-a-garchy states.

But even my fascination was tested on my trainer ride. I ended up caving in and forwarding to 10K to go. Which was mildly entertaining with the very wide roads preventing any control. Which eventually resulted in the somewhat unexpected podium. Then I switched to the blizzard in southern Spain, which was interesting until it wasn't.

Andy Hampsten was somewhere in Italy shaking his head in disgust.

Just finished up the southern most Northern Classics shakeout ride (introduction) of new gravel bike. It was windy, wet and bumpy in your old hood, and has me primed for Saturday.

Omloop:
LaPorte, Ben Turner, Arnaud De Lie

Procyclingstat is good for start lists

I saw your podium pick and thought: what are you implying about Ineos getting rolled like OPQS? I then realized that van Baarle is no longer on Ineos

And yes. It is Omloop week!

Alright peeps. Here is your official season kickoff!

MEDIA DAY will be Thursday 2/23. Spackler has a reveal, and then as defending champ will be vague and formulaic discussing his preparation for this season. McNulty will mix sage advice and metaphors to amuse and confuse. e-chappy will have detailed course breakdowns. trail will tell us how his Winter Wonderland altitude camp has prepared him. Clay Davis will be Tadej-esque awe shucks, and then throw down. And artist formerly known as turdburgler will be setting up his post race Strava file spreadsheets. eb, HeyMartin, Sullisbrew and trener1 will be in tent 2 signing autographs.

Race Calendar this year:

Omloop 2/25
KBK 2/26
Strade 3/4
MSR (or wherever it starts this year) 3/18
Brugge De Panne 3/22
E3H 3/24
Gent 3/26
Dwars 3/29
De Ronde 4/2
Roubaix 4/9
DB Pijl 4/12
Amstel 4/16
La Fleche Walone 4/19
LBL 4/23

You should know the rules. But for extra incentive this year, Commisioner is offering up a purse. Giftcard arranged via PM.

Follow-up question

Men’s events only, correct?

Just five picks per event, correct?

Thanks in advance

Yes. Men's only. Can pick Women for fun. Just too much to keep track of.

EDIT
Pick three podium finishers and two wildcard. Point for any order as long as they in top 5. Bonus points if guess podium spots and, or winner correctly.

And to anyone else following along, all are welcome!

As someone who lives in Dubai, it’s always fun to go out and watch them roll by. There’s never more than a handful of us except near the finish, which, luckily, I could see all but the last km from my office.

This is almost exactly what I was thinking (subbing in De Lie for Kristoff)

'Loop:
Pidcock, Laporte, Wellens
De Lie, Ballerini

For the women:
ELB, Kopecky, AvV
Vollering, Niewiadoma

i'll be curious to see how puck goes. i think fem will also make her major road debut a bit later this spring, and shirin should be back in action with trek soon too. that new generation of 'crossers could also be mixing things up on the road soon enough . . .

Word. You do wonder, given the fairly dramatic way that the new generation stepped in to dominate cross this season, whether we'll see any of that transfer to the road.

yeah he looked decent at san juan, and i have to think he means business this year.

the tough part is his niche, once quite broad, has really been crowded out. but if there's a sprint after a hard hard race i wouldn't count him out.

The Loop and KBK have seemed to be opportunities for the super talented work horses to grab one before Flanders and Roubaix time. Guys peaking early maybe. Dark horses in that they would be longer shots to win those, not that they're stiffs by any stretch.
I think Wellens in particular fits this mold. He's going GREAT right now and it seems like he's made a good move with UAE, getting strong support in these races for giving strong support to TP later.

Puck who? Is Pieterse racing road this year?

Fem is supposed to race Strade Bianche just next week, but Puck?!?!

Yeah, I think he’s more like where Boonen and Cancellara were at this stage in their careers. Not going to win a field sprint anymore but can use a huge classics motor to take it to the house or bag a reduced sprint finish after a tough one-day.
