'98 Tour re-tested samples are in .....

And no real surprises:

And unless I'm reading it incorrectly, it says they retested these back in '04??? But they didn't release them until now?

the one i'm most let down by: Andrea Tafi. He actually spoke out in favor of testing in the 99 Giro, the one in which saw Pantani get thrown out. But then again, not surprised as he rode for Mapei.

Stuey doesn't surprise me, nor does Cipo. As for a person i expect to be on there but not, i was half expecting Jens to be there.

Given that they probably tested the stage winners and the podium, thankfully, Boardman is not on that list.

Updated link, should be working.

Note that all the "suspicious" to me means that they still tested with EPO in their blood, just not to the levels required to throw a positive.

It would be helpful at least to ST if they also posted the list of riders that weren't tested at all. Its possibel he just wasn't tested.

I'm wondering about this, too. On top of of that (I'm really ignorant on all of the Tour/cycling doping history and don't even know where to start), my subsequent questions are probably kind of dumb: Why 1998, and do they have more samples from other years they'll be retesting/releasing?

this just in - riders in the 90's doped!

If they were re-tested but held in 04 it just goes to show that the problem goes much deeper than "just" the riders

And really, are we "helping" cycling by bringing all of this back up continually? I wonder.

Point? Everyone here already knows that it has been around forever in some form or another.

I guess we can't be sure he was tested, no? No stage wins and no yellows? He did hold the polka dots for one day, but I don't think that means automatic testing, right?

Tom Steels isn't on there. Dude's an animal if he clobbers juiced up Cipos, Blijlevens', and Zabels.

And that brings me to the next one: no Belgians, except for Merckx. Don't know what that means, except that it may explain why there's been no Belgian winners since Van Impe way back in 1978.

Most of the responses on this thread and others indicate that the thinking that doping was something new in the 90s and began/ended with Lance. Pointing out the long and sordid history of doping in cycling. The 1998 results should surprise no one here.

Now that would be a case study on how to waste PEDs.

- Wikipedia article was both informative and depressing btw.

So the statute of limitations does apply to these guys right and they get to keep their spoils and remain involved in the sport?

I think mostly yes. But e.g. Blijlevens is facing a six month suspension from his Belkin DS job and a fine; the Dutch union made all its employees and the employees of Belkin and Argos sign a declaration to that effect (if your violation was post-2007 you get fired instead of fined and suspended).

OK, FIFY, "I'm positive, riders dope!

Just like I'm positive that football players, baseball players, basketball players, triathletes, and douches in the gym all dope.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.
