"Workout"- etymology?
I always think about weird things like this. Why do we call the act of exercising a "workout". Does this refer to "working outside"? Or maybe because we're "working out" some sort of cramp...Any insight?
Along the same lines, why do we call the area away from Earth "space"? Couldn't they think of a better name for it? Come on! "Space"? How boring! Ha, ha.

As I typed it in another thread I wondered about the origins of half-assed, as opposed to full-assed?

I can answer at least half of that one!

Parkways were originally designed as roads through national parks and grew from there. I learned that from a Bill Bryson book.
