Is there a contest to see who will play the whiner role of Peter Reid in this one?

Hah! I was just thinking the same thing - OMG, I wonder if any one could whine and bitch about how hard his/her life is as much as Reid? Or maybe they could get someone like Lori to talk about what a horrible, inconvenient setback babies are?

I just watched What It Takes while resting up in the AC and eating chocolates with the international crew the day before Strongman in Japan. Thinking about poor, poor Peter made me laugh more than once while trying to keep my mind occupied on the bike race day. His bad attitude reminded me to smile, enjoy and remember that I do this for fun.

RR

EDITED to add that I don't think I put down either athlete's incredible talents in my post - sorry if some took it that way. I have no doubt they're nice people.. and that I could never, ever beat either of them in a race or have the careers they do. Just found them very negative in the movie. And yes, Lori does call her child a setback, a challenge, and I certainly didn't get the feeling she was happy about it. But what do I know? Nada.

????WINE AND BITCH ???BOTH OF THESE POSTERS ARE CRAZY I bet you a Million dollars neither of you would have the GUTS to say a word to peter reid. I have met him and seen him race!!! Bottom line he is the Lance of our sport. I bet if we did a video of either of you you life would have problems as well and by the way this guy had to keep the weight off because that was the only way to win but I guess you missed that part of the DVD!!!

Yes, Peter is a very nice guy, a great racer, an no, I couldn't beat him. What idiotic posts! The fact remains(if you would search previous threads) that whether it was PR or the editor who did the movie, he came across as a very poor whiner, who could not react to the stresses in his life at that time. I know personally many pros, who did beat Peter, in fact, who get it done without the whining. No offense to Peter, but facts is facts.

Have to agree with BamaTri on this one. If you watch What It Takes, Peter isn't "whining" - he's being honest about how he overcomes adversity and struggle. The thing I enjoyed about the movie was the way it showed the human side of a 3-time world champ. Tri-3, you're talking about how many guys beat Peter Reid - are you kidding me? IF Normann wins again, and that's a very big IF, he'll have the same number of world championships. None of the other guys currently on the scene are close. Peter competed with Mark Allen, Dave Scott, and Greg Welch in the early part of his career, and Tim DeBoom, Normann, and Faris in the late part. In What It Takes he showed us some of the stresses he faced, but still came within just a couple of minutes of adding a 4th world title to his collection.

When did Lori refer to her son as a horrible setback?

Whatever. Seems the majority felt he was whining. Not many elite athletes in sport are like that, and I think they did a poor job in finding athletes to profile. No slight on Peter, Lori, whomever. The story was weak, the editing sucked, and the movie as a whole was not motivating at all, except to motivate one to turn down the volume on the "oh, woe is me" crap. As far as being able to comment, anyone can review a movie and give opinions without being a better actor, player, whatever. The movie producers screwed up......Lori got pregnant, PR moaned.....they should have focused on one of the other athletes who had more to contribute.

Sorry, but i agree.

He may be a fantastic triathlete, and a nice person in real life but he comes across in the movies as just an incredibly negative person... I almost felt like slashing my own wrists after watching him..

I didn't think Reid was a whiner. I thought he was truthful, which is rare to see in such a film. OTOH, the film didn't produce much of a reaction in me even while watching it after the carbo dinner in Kona.

I bet even an icon like Prefontaine could have been considered by some as a whiner if a similiar documentary was made of him during certain periods in his life.

I'm hoping the running film is better. It looks promising. I'll wait for the reviews.
