"Unoriginalman"

So, what gives with all the derivative triathlon names? Exactly how unoriginal are most race directors? Do they think nobody will sign up for their race unless it's "Somethingman"?

Mini-rant over. Just a minor pet peeve.

Oddly enough I look at it just the opposite. Coming up with a new name is far easier than coming up with a a new name that is cool that ends with "Man".

You might have a point, if any of these new names that end with "man" were cool.

Here are a few that you probably won't see used anytime soon:

1. Ottoman
2. Human
3. Boogyman
4. Ferryman
5. Seaman

All would be original though. The last two might be in bad taste, especially if the race is no where near a body of water.

I find it a pretty cool. There is a new race getting started in Tijuana with a slight variation: Ironmang.

Ottoman would be an awesome name for a beginner tri. You know, for couch potatoes.

Ugh. That was terrible. ;)

I think a Halloween time tri with the name "Boogyman" would be original.

Blame WTC ;) If they didn't prohibit the use of Ironman by other companies it would be the Podunk Ironman instead of the Poman, just like it is the Podunk marathon.

How about

- "Batman", 2.4 mile swim in guano
- "Clergyman", 2.4 mile swim through alter boys

I could do this all day. :)

We arranged a "busemann triathlon" last year, and "busemann" is norwegian for "Boogeyman". It was a late night triathlon in october.

Busemann - It's not about winning, it's about survival!
