I feel equally lucky:

Primary Care Physician: Triathlete
Cardiologist: Cyclist
Orthopedic Surgeon: Competitive OW swimmer.
Internist: Runner/Marathoner

Luckier still:

Primary Care Physician: Don't have one
Cardiologist: Don't have one
Orthopedic Surgeon: Ironman triathlete
Internist: Don't have one

(55 and very lucky)

My PCP is about 60, smokes pipe and thinks I am a fool for doing endurance sports.
But he is an excellent listener and a deep source of information on anything sports-injury/health related.
Did I mention he was a national team-physician, going to more than one Olympics?

I would not want a type A athlete-minded short-term benefit-minded PCP to be in charge of my care.
I am most of that myself already and need a different perspective.

For my own good.

Looking ahead a few years, if you have a PCP you can access on a regular basis under Obamacare, you are one of the fortunate (however you came into your good fortune).

The wealthy will access concierge medicine and regular medical goodies. The rest can forget about the type of care being discussed.
