What's it going to take to get a discount on Hed wheels? Noone seems to want to give us regular folks a hookup on the good stuff!

Until this year, Trisports did. Maybe something new with Zipp? Anyway, I believe you can get a 20% discount and free shipping on your first order at gottaridebikes.com. Micheal, who runs the place, is a great guy. And as far as I can tell, Zipps are not excluded.

I just looked at the web site gottaridebikes.com and it does not exclude Zipps. ALso, free shipping over 50 bucks. And looking at the zipp 999, their price is within 60 bucks on the cheapest via qbike. Guess I know where I will be buying my new zipps.

Exactly my problem.

Does anyone know of anywhere to get them at a better price? I was counting on TriSports, but they added the line about "no discounts"!

FYI - Most major manufacturers (in the bike industry) are heading in the NO DISCOUNTS direction (QR and Zipp were added to the list in 2006, HED in late '05). Many industries are already there (electronics).

the consumer sets the market, not the manufacturer.

Why, exactly, would they discourage people from legitimately buying their products? Their margins are set when the dealer takes the inventory, no?

Sort of stupid, in my mind.

This is very common with high-end, hard to make stuff.

If you're a small LBS, you need the margin. If the manufacturer lets your big-city (or internet) competition cut the price, you lose (and so does the community you serve). It's the manufacturers' way of keeping it fair for everybody.
