De Soto Run Short - 40% OFF (I don't think you understood the significance of this)
Updated February 23rd:

We ran this special this a few weeks ago. I bought 2 pair of run shorts, one black, one blue. This to go with the 2pr of run shorts - black and blue - that I've had for maybe 12 or 14 years, De Soto split run shorts, that I, my running, my washer and dryer, just can't seem to kill.

I'm talking about these: http://www.desotosport.com/product/QRS

So, you fools! I checked and fewer than 60pr of run shorts were sold the last time we ran this special. I can't speak to the other shorts per the links below. I, for example, do not run in the Women's Run Knickers. But I can speak for the De Soto Quick Splits, which, if there is a split run short anywhere, made by any company, that is half as good as these, I haven't found it (and I've tried).

Today, run shorts look like something between gym and basketball shorts. But no actual, good, serious runner would run in a short like that. Any self-respecting runner who wants to be taken seriously runs in splits. But as far as I know the code below works for all the links below, until out of stock.

I asked Emilio to give our readers a second crack at this. It's good 'til Friday. Code = RUNSHORTRUSH2

Great deal but 20% exchange rate and $30 shipping to Canada (plus taxes over the border) and it's not a deal anymore for us Canadians :/ Even buying two pairs it's over $120CDN plus taxes all in.

Edit: Not saying I don't appreciate the offer, just my reason for not taking advantage of it ;)

Edit 2 : Just checked my Visa, exchange rate is 28% now :(

Question for De Soto (I'm pretty sure I've seen Emilio haunting the boards....)

I am not sure of sizing...I'm a clydesdale. If I get XL, and L might work better, is that an easy exchange?

Thanks for the extension. Just ordered 2 pairs. I can't wait for the other runners to start taking me seriously now.

I appreciate the offer and I'm sure they are good shorts, but I went to de soto's site with my credit card ready, howver when I saw the price I put my wallet away. Sorry even at 40% off, that is too much for running shorts, 34 bucks plus shipping?

It leaves me asking the serious question:

What makes the desoto shorts worth a 240% premium (at normal price) over these: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/...escpage-BMHD1ES.html?

i'm sure a lot of it has to do with volume. but, i can answer your question from my own perspective. as i stated in the original post, i'm still wearing my vintage de soto splits. from the 90s. they're indestructible. in the meantime i've gone through a lot of other shorts, inexpensive, but very and easily destructible. and they destructed. the liner fell apart. the waistband fell apart. but not the de sotos.

second, what you're pointing to aren't splits. they're fugly poser shorts made by a company i really don't like very much.

third, if you want a quality short, with quality fabrics, that is a performance short, it's going to cost a little more. maybe de soto's single best product versus the competition - where de soto is so far ahead it's lapping the field - is its skin cooler. there's something about that garment, and that fabric, that other companies do not seem able to duplicate. that's what's in the liner of the split shorts.

finally, as noted, i really don't think they do cost more. when i consider the 3 or 4 pairs of running shorts that i buy for every 1 pair of de soto splits, i don't recognize a cost savings.

your results may vary. but that's my calculus.

all that said, there are some garments where i just don't recognize the value charged for the "performance" product. while i'm very picky about the run shorts i wear, i'm sorry, i just don't see the value in $40 or $50 "tech" t shirts. i throw these in the wash. i abuse them. i want them to keep going after 100 wash/dry cycles. i don't want to spend a fortune on them. for those who feel as i do, i have a solution coming for you all. in this category, and in socks as well (which are also vastly overpriced).

Yes and easy exchange for sizes and colors too, but Why not buy both and just return the one that does not fit?

To answer your question, please watch this series of how we make all our products, not just the custom shorts shown in the videos. They are about a minute long each. Not that any of these should make you change your mind, but rather so that you know what we do here with all our products, not just run shorts.

Step 1: This video is irrelevant as it just shows the design of the print.

Step 2: Emilio shows how after designing the graphics that will go on the run shorts panels, step 2 is to print the panels on paper with a large-format printer that is carefully wrapped in plastic to control the humidity of the ink heads for optimal color resolution and clarity of graphics. Nobody else in the world does this! Just like making a fine wine, we pay attention to the smallest details. The panels are then printed with a special sublimation ink.

Step 3: Our special sublimation process uses a unique ink that is pressed with heat onto our high-tech fabrics. The heat turns the ink into a gas, which then adheres to the fabric, giving it brilliant sharp color and accurate design detail, all without affecting the performance integrity of the fabric. So our fabrics still keep you cool, remain breathable, and comfortable, while never fading, cracking, or losing their original esthetic appeal. Each pressing takes about 45 seconds and is quite loud since this heat press is pneumatically operated by an air compressor, so we skipped that part in the video.

STEP 4: A well-designed garment should not only look good, it should also fit well. Emilio gives away one of the most important secrets as to why our garments do. In this modern automated age, it is rare you will find any other company that does this.
CLICK HERE FOR THE VIDEO: https://www.facebook.com/...p;type=2&theater

STEP 5: You don't have to outsource when you are THE SOURCE! Our sewing room is not an assembly line. Instead garments are sewn by small teams so they see the process from start to finish. This gives our workers a greater sense of accomplishment and pride as they can actually appreciate the finished product they have created. Again, this is just another facet of what makes De Soto products so special.

STEP 6: The shorts are inspected one by one, the lint is removed, and the product feature tags are added. Lint is commonly found on our high-tech fabrics due to the static charge the fabric holds from the electric sewing machines. One final note; all the inks used to color our garments have no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) in them. So they are better for your skin along and better for the environment.

We invite you to tell us what other brands do this....we just cannot find a single one, not just in triathlon, but in any sport. We hope we are helping to answer the question, "why buy De Soto instead of other brands?" When you are ready to have the best rather than the cheapest, email me at emilio@desotosport.com

Not that it's Emilio's fault, but this sucks for us Canucks!

I have to admit, while we do sell them, and while I used to wear split run shorts in the early 90's, I only wear Solana Run Shorts and Playa Run Shorts to run in and have done so for about 20 years.

If you are not into our Split Run Shorts or our printed shorts list in the OP, We have solids and we have long shorts and I have just included them in this offer!

Solana Run Short 7-inch inseam (solid colors): https://www.desotosport.com/product/SRS1

Playa Run Short 10-inch inseam (solid colors): https://www.desotosport.com/product/PRS1

Just to clarify since I never purchased shorts from you... when they say liner is it the typically liner I see in running shorts so no underwear under the shorts?

That is correct. The liner is the brief inside that suits that very purpose. But in a much more comfortable way!

you gotta be kidding me! i just bought these at full retail a few weeks back!
i don't mind paying a premium for good shorts. Nike elite distance shorts are $55 and they are made in china. i run 100+mi a week so i do appreciate shorts that just "disappear" on runs.

having said that, i do own 2 pairs of BOA shorts and they are pretty decent. if you want a no frills lightweight racing short that doesn't absorb too much sweat, the BOA is a good option, and i do like the seams short for racing.

Good call and thank you for adding the Solana. I picked up two pair. And, I'll add, another good marketing move with the Transition pack offer during checkout. I grabbed that too since it seemed like a great deal sat $79.00, I wanted one anyway and it pushed me over the free shipping threshold.
